Three Fires in 48 Hours Alarm Town

Over 48 hours three small fires struck the town raising concerns of negligence. A barber shop beside the Roma hotel suffered two blazes and the wardens warned the proprietor to strictly follow fire rules. The Barclay residence near the Record office also caught fire but was quickly extinguished. A conspicuous circular and the new townsite fire alarm update enforcement.

Notice on Free Miner Certificates Validity and Fees

The minister of mines announces that an individual free miner's certificate issued or renewed before May 1 1899 remains valid for one or more years from issue. Renewals after May 1 and before May 8 1899 are valid only until May 8 with pro rata fees. A new certificate may be issued from May 31 1899 midnight valid one or more years, and a table will show proportionate rates for partial-year certificates.

Wagon Accident Injures Teamster Near Marcus

G W Bannerman a teamster was thrown from his wagon between Cascade and Marcus last Tuesday. The wagon passed over one leg breaking it below the knee. He was taken to Marcus for treatment. He was bound for Marcus and was not loaded.

Spokesman-Review Rep Tours Cascade On Mining Book Promos

Percy F. Godenrath travelling representative for the Spokesman-Review visited Cascade yesterday on a return from Republic Greenwood and Camp McKinney. He sought business for the paper's mining book due to be published. Rumor suggests Cupid has been active in Cascade recently.

Lectures on Chemistry Aid Prospectors in Cascade

Profs Burns gave two practical talks on Chemistry and its Relation to Mineralogy in Cascade. He demonstrated simple field tests with acids and a blowpipe to detect metals, and showcased reagent methods for prospecting. The talk promoted Crosby’s Treatment of Common Minerals and Rocks and drew large crowds, including many women.

Frank Hutchinson failed to forge a trail to the Chamberlain group on McRae creek to start operations. G. T. Curtis of Cascade has acquired the Golden Chord adjoining Mystery and plans to begin within two weeks, while the Tammany group remains under pending deal. Dr. Dixon of Toronto and Wm. Forrest inspect property as depth of snow limits access. D. C. Beach returns with F. E. Starkey. Victoria group on Christina lake near the Cove yields limited access. Willarson and Johnson, active on the Mystery group near Burnt Basin, continue crosscutting the ledge despite heavy snows.

Mining updates from the Pierre lake and North Fork districts

The Bluebird Skylark camp improves as the shaft reaches 46 feet. Work resumes on the Helen E. group in the Pierre lake district. Mammoth Diamond Hitch Co forms to work claims on Pathfinder mountain at the North Fork. O. K. and Humming Bird bought by Smith Curtis for about 60 000 with cash. Claims lie 10 miles up the North Fork of Kettle River. Burleigh drills planned for the Combination mine in Providence camp with an 800 foot tunnel under contract. J. C. Bartholomew, locator and owner, passes through Cascaile. Paymaster Woodman returns from Pierre lake area 16 miles south of Cascade. copper claims being developed with a 40 foot shaft and ongoing sinking.
