Reunion of Ninth Cavalry in Carthage Honored Veterans

Spiceland Indiana October 10 1898 report details the Ninth Cavalry reunion in Carthage with 40 survivors attending from Company E. Comrades praised local hospitality and church facilities, noted obituaries informing sadness, and thanked organizers led by Judge Comstock and Rev Fletcher. The event included visits to the Soldier's and Sailor's Orphan Home and an evening program at the M E church with Ex Governor Will Cumback speaking.

Carthage Citizens Back Local Plant in Meeting

At a Monday gathering in Carthage the group endorsed the States Board & Paper Co. plant as a civic boon to workers and the community. Edgar N. Hill urged support for the defense of the court against the company and any future challenges. The Walnut Women’s Foreign Conference set a date for October 21 1888.

Walnut Mill street owners urged to sign waiver by Oct seventeenth

Property owners on Walnut Mill street are requested to sign waivers by October 17 related to the Barrett law. It is reported that Pre McKinley will be in Indiana and Indianapolis that day from nine to ten o clock, and citizens are urged to sound whistles bells and cannons to show approval of the President's war course. A Rushville meeting discussed nominations and party issues. Carthage Glee Club forms with Charles Kinder leader and Frank Overman baritone tenor, Harry Pitts bass, and will perform at Phillip's grove after Hon. James' meeting.
