Local notes list weekly art studio sessions at Beck's, visits by residents to Rushville and Indianapolis, property purchases, and social events. Mentions include J C Henley of Indianapolis, C L Stinger at the county seat, Miss Stella Gaure, Pearl Kitchen, and many others visiting relatives, attending commencements, or shopping for buggies from Stanley and Coleman.
The commencement exercises of the Class of 1903 proved very successful with a calm stage presence and commendable productions. Music by Rummel's Opera Orchestra was excellent. seniors delivered papers on The Checkerboard, Uses of Chemistry, The Roman Forum, Our Heroes, The Content of Words, The Utility of Music, and Mathematics and Character. Several graduates plan further education, and faculty changes include Prof. El. A. Lanning remaining and Miss Ida Ludlow teaching in Fayette Co.
The Bass family thanks friends and neighbors for assistance during the death of our son and brother William Bass. Porter Bros stock of groceries to be sold at public auction on Saturday May 28, 1903 at 1 pm in Carthage Rush Co Indiana. Cash to highest bidder. C Logan Stinger, Trustee.
Adelbert Bass, son of Mr and Mrs Wm Bass, was killed Saturday afternoon when a hay load shift frightened horses and a wheel crushed his skull. Funeral services were held Monday at Christian Church with burial in Riverside Cemetery.
Miss Winifred Schooley and Mr. George T. Hanes of Raleigh N C were married Tuesday at Mrs Katherine Schooleys Main Street home by Alph ius Trueblood in a simple gathering. Guests included Rev Trueblood Miss Winona Newsom Ed Hill Miss Jennie Coble Dr Al Huddleston Ina Huddleston and others. They plan a trip to Indiana polis then Richmond Va then home to Hotel Dorset Raleigh after June first.
Judge Morris decided the case of Thomas B. Moore against the Carthage Straw Board Company last Friday, granting damages only for injuries to Moore's mill. Damages for land, odors, and fish were denied. A motion for new trial will be filed and appeal to the Supreme Court planned.
