Will of Joseph Overman Probated in Rush Circuit Court

The will of Joseph Overman of Ripley township is probated in Rush circuit court. His wife Melissa receives life rights to one third of the home farm and one third of rents, plus $500 and household goods. After Melissa’s death, goods are divided among Emma Overman, Ada Porch, and Mary Hill. Son Cyrus and Oliver Overman receive nothing unless Julian provides. Julian receives the Carthage Lot 15 and the home farm with Melissa’s life interest, plus most of the remainder of the personal property. Emma gets $500 and Mary Hill $700 to be paid by Julian.

Coons Signs to Pitch for Muncie Interstate Team

Perry Coons, once the idol of Knightstown fans in balmy baseball days, signed to pitch for the Muncie team in the Interstate league this season. He opened with a 10 to 8 win over Saginaw, Mich., at Muncie last Thursday. He allowed sixteen hits but received errorless support. fifteen hits were recorded against him.

Carthage High School Beats Spiceland 9 to 5 in Narrow Game

Carthage High School, using three town team members, defeated Spiceland Academy 9 to 5. Kizer pitched for Carthage with Brandy for Spiceland. Hinshaw made fine catches and fielded well in the first inning. Carthage led early, held Spiceland scoreless until the sixth, and added runs in the ninth. Rhoades earned a two bagger, Beher a three-base hit, and Stanely, W. Bundy, Phelps contributed in the lineup. Umpires Publow and Merida presided. Score by innings shows Carthage taking a lead then holding on.

Last Class 06 Social Honors at Newson Home

Seniors of class 06 enjoyed an evening at Mr. Howard A. Newson's home with helpers Merrell Coffin Bing Powers Fred White William Krames and Russell Phelps. The decorations featured dogwood blossoms red bud and violet cream colors. Margery Hill won a car contest with an original historical story Excursions of Class 06 Past Present and Future. Florence Catt received a miniature trolley car as consolation. The soirée included a clothes pin race music and a luncheon of fancy sandwiches eggs violet cream ice cream angel food cake and mint wafers with candied violets.

Class Day Exercises and Program Highlights

About five hundred invitations were issued and nearly all accepted for Wednesday afternoon. The program featured vocal trio Lois Hill Hazel Binford Alma Braden and solos by Hill and Braden, plus readings, poems, a merchant of Venice synopsis, and a class will. The Seniors choir closed with a class song as the postmaster of ten Ia faces a dispute over delinquent mail.
