Martha Lamb daughter of Phineas and Huldah Lamb was born in Hanover County Indiana in 1836 and died 1905 at nearly seventy. She cared for seven siblings after her mother’s death and later lived with a sister near Lewisville before passing away near Lafayette. Her life reflected constant self denial and devotion to others and to church service despite illness.
Born in North Carolina, she married S. Pitts in 1859 and had five children, four of whom survive. She joined the Christian church in youth and later the Friends, enduring 35 years of great suffering with Christian fortitude. She died in Carthage, Indiana at age 70 years, 8 months, and 19 days, leaving a grieving husband and children to mourn.

Knightstown Banner laments a weeks long wave of local scandal. The piece accuses society figures of vice, mocks religious leaders, decries declining Sunday School attendance, and claims crime and immorality run rampant as parents neglect children. The editorial asks where the situation will end.

Raeburn's portrait of his wife sold in London for 43500 dollars on June 3, then disposed of for 4050 dollars in 1877. An orchid named Crispum Roger San der fetched 4590 dollars at a London auction. Wiesbaden saw a quarter cask of Erbacher Marcobrunner wine knocked down for 3000 dollars. A hawthorn vase from the Louis Huth dispersal in London brought 29500 dollars, while a Metternich desk sold for 200000 dollars to a Paris museum and a rock crystal biberon for 81000 dollars in London auctions.
