Thomas W Henley pioneer of Ripley township remembered
Thomas W Henley born in Randolph County North Carolina December 21 1818 moved west with family in 1830. He grafted orchards in Wayne Randolph Henry Rush and Shelby counties and became a major landowner in Ripley township. He married Hannah Williams in 1854 and raised seven children. A lifelong Whig turned Republican he voted for William Henry Harrison and supported church and education. He remains active at eighty three after years of farming fishing with old Henry the yellow horse. Viewers appointed to extend a new road east from the township line claim public utility and will bring a third rural mail route to Carthage area.
