Judicial convention selects prosecuting attorney for district
Delegates from Bush and Decatur counties met in Greensburg at the G A R Hall to choose a district prosecuting attorney. After morning opposition to the unit rule, delegates organized with M D Tackett as chair and A D Cole as secretary. On the seventh ballot Mr Roland won the nomination, praised for ability and character.

Sebitha Allender of Flemimg county Kentucky born November 9 1820 youngest of fourteen. Moved to Rush Indiana 1826 Beavers meadow. Married thrice Nathan Parish William Beckner and Be Newby. children George W Henry W daughter and several grandchildren survive. John A Holding born September 17 1824 Scott county Kentucky moved to Shelby county Indiana 1832 married Lydia Canon 1846 five children. He joined ME church then Christian Union then Friends church. Died April 14 1896 after illness. Funeral April 15 Morristown Interment Asbury Cemetery.

Town Board Bets on Ground and Building Lease
Town Board Trustees at a special meeting bought the south half of the old school building from Allen Newsom for 300 dollars, with 25 dollars as part payment for the old town hall. They also leased Newsom's lot for five years to share hitchrack space and plan moving the building to the town lot for hitchrack use, prompting questions about cost and future location.

Arbor Day Exercises at Carthage graded schools
Teachers and pupils observed Arbor Day with exercises on the campus at 1 30 pm. The school gathered with visitors and heard Rev W N Fletcher address them. Each class dedicated a tree with songs and addresses. The high school honored Horace Mann and Miss Dickey's class and others with named poets.

The Indianapolis Journal publishes a full copy of a telegram from Major C T Doxey to Governor Claude Matthews dated July 9 1894. Doxey says the message reflects the sentiment of honest workingmen and offers militia support to protect life liberty property and the country’s honor if an emergency arises.

Rich Oil Strike Prompts Wells County Wealth Boom
Rushville correspondent notes William Ogle, once penniless, moved to Wells county bought eighty acres at sixteen dollars an acre, leased it for two years at 120 dollars annually, then bought out lessees in 1895 and developed eight wells producing large oil yields. His income totaled 245 dollars weekly, about twelve thousand yearly, and he recently refused a cash offer of sixteen thousand for land bought for twelve hundred eighty. Gas leases in Madison county decline as gas wells turn to oil.
