Mr. and Mrs. Bill Windsor with their sons and Mrs. Edna Windsor of Knightstown spent the weekend in southern Indiana visiting Santa Claus Land. They also attended an antique auto show in Terre Haute and visited Weir Cook airport in Indianapolis.
Mrs Joe Graffe visits clinic for tests and observation at New Castle Clinic room 205. Mrs Fred McManus returns home after major surgery at New Castle Clinic. Mrs Josie Nigh comes home from eye surgery at Rush Memorial Hospital to Mrs Forrest Marshall’s home.
The Carthage Art Club gathered Monday at Mrs. Mary Carter's home. Mae Moore was chosen president while Mary Taylor became secretary and treasurer as members spent the evening painting and enjoying light refreshments.
The Carthage Dump now operates Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Wednesdays from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. The new schedule shifts public drop off times and affects residents using the facility.
The Womans Society of Christian Service will meet at the Methodist Church on Thursday October 4. Hostesses named are Mrs. Carl Foust Mrs. Roscoe Brown and Mrs. David Ray.
Richard A. Whitfield, 25, Carth age, was arrested on State Road 3 last week by state police for having false registration plates on his car. He was cited in justice of peace court at Rushville and paid a fine of $18.75.
Manilla claims team title with 28 points in Arlington on Friday. Swift led with 10 minutes 1 second, followed by Pitts of Arlington, Smith of Manilla, Spurlin of Milroy, and Wright of Manilla in top ten. Carthage and Arlington strong showings, Milroy trails.
Final plans were made for the annual county baseball and cross country meets. The baseball tournament opens today with three games followed by subsequent rounds on Sept 28 and Oct 2 and Oct 5. The county cross country meet is set for Oct 9 at Morton's course starting at 4 30 p.m. Morton defends as team champion.
Eight Garden Club members attended the Southeast District Indiana meeting all day last Wednesday at the Elks Club in Shelbyville. Attendees included Mesdames Homer Hensler Thomas Bush Loyal Hunt Albert Ray Donald Ruby Louis Humes Lloyd Manuel and Ruth White. Home Economics II display in Citizen north window features 216 canned fruits and vegetables prepared by Carthage High School under Mrs Odessa Bieschke.
A marriage license was issued this week in New Castle to Janice Jo Johnson of Carthage and Larry Ray Back of Knightstown.
Public Service Company of Indiana marks its 50th year delivering electric power across 69 counties serving 381000 customers. From under 10000 customers in 1912 and 9 million kWh, it now has about 2800 employees and five power stations with a capacity of 1640000 kilowatts.
The first annual Fall Festival Bowling Tournament held Sept 22 23 produced top results with Robert Jackson leading men and Martha Trowbridge dominating women. Prize trophies and tickets were awarded with plans to make the event an annual festival feature.

Our girl of the week Pamela Jo Clark takes a college preparatory course and plans to attend Indiana University Medical Center after graduation to study radiography. She enjoys ice skating twirling and reading and has served as vice-president of her class for three years.
CHS highlights Ronald A Weidner as the 30 Year of the Week senior. He enjoys baseball basketball cross country and track and is taking a college preparatory course with plans for college. Last year he served as president of his junior class.
Roy Huston is introduced as the new mathematics and chemistry teacher in a brief school note. The announcement highlights his academic focus and appointment.
The Carthage Lions Club met September 24 1962 with President Tom Shields. Eighteen members attended plus three guests from Knights town club and two from New Salem. Richard McCready of Lawrence Lions spoke on the Eye Bank program. An October membership drive is planned with Jim Ellis and Leonard Jackson as co chairs. New teachers in the local school will be guests at the October 8 dinner meeting.
Mr. and Mrs. Robert Wolfe and son from Hammond, Illinois stayed with Mr. and Mrs. Omer Heim and family. Sunday dinners included the Addisons and Mrs. Clara McClain. Kenneth Rhodes and family attended the IU vs Kansas State football game. Dearinger relatives visited Walter Mull in North Madison hospital. Mull died Saturday. Hollis Heuer and family from Rushville visited Roy Turner’s home. Mrs. Kenneth Rhodes visited her mother Ethel Hartzler in Rushville. Mrs. Forrest Marshall spent Tuesday with Mrs. Walter Marshall in Rushville.
Milroy edged Carthage 2 to 1 as the Cardinals tied it in the seventh and scored the winning run in the ninth. Tom Hood scored the tying run with a seventh inning triple and later crossed on an error. Milroy had six hits, while Carthage managed two. Knecht pitched for Milroy with three strikeouts. Porter fanned six for Carthage.
Three people sustained minor injuries when Shirley Lawson's car left Knights Town Road north of Carthage at 6 20 p m Friday The driver 24 year old Shirley Jean Lawson and her 6 year old daughter Gloria plus Wanda Sue Rose 15 suffered cuts bruises and lacerations Trooper James Kleiman cited Mrs Lawson for driving on a beginner's permit with no licensed adult present The car owned by Robert Lawson was damaged about 750 and the fence about 30 The investigation continues Then Ruth White hosted a White reunion and cooperative noon dinner at her home with Fred White Rev Edgar White and family among attendees
Two new shops debut in Carthage. Money's Restaurant on South Main Street, operated by Kenneth Money with Celia Alexander owner, offers full meals and quick service during its first three days of a Fall Festival. Bill's Bargain Store occupies the former Schuck location on North Main Street, offering men’s women’s and children’s clothing and shoes from owner Bill Dowden.

The 1962 Fall Festival continues with events at the Community Center including a Garden Club Flower Show and a church sponsored Smorgasbord. Friday features the Talent Show Fall Festival Stars in Space at 8 p.m. Saturday hosts a 2 p.m. parade down Main Street followed by a dance and queen crowning at 11 p.m.
Band Boosters thank supporters for funding new uniforms. The band debuts in the Fall Festival concert Thursday and marches in Saturday’s parade. Edna N Kennedy notes $400 raised from Community Birthday Calendars to fund the uniforms. Ripley Needletwisters met September 20 with 22 attendees and elected 4H queens Darlene Barry and Linda Copple.
Citizens 21 by election date and six months state resident qualify for registration. County clerks now cover the county to assist and transfer voters who moved or who did not vote in 1960 must re register.
