Hoosier Motorists Bid Break On Plate Date Change

Hoosier motorists have long sought to shift the registration plate date, but Assembly members have denied it. Todd Stoops notes many states already advance plate dates and Pennsylvania will in 1940. Pennsylvania law also tightens tire safety, substitutes fog lamps for headlights in rain, enforces a 35 mph limit in fog, requires speedometer certificates for speeding arrests, and raises the view distance to 500 feet.

Homemade Mail Route Brings Mail By Cable System

In WAUKON IOWA H G Hagen uses a homemade 32 volt motor powered mail box line four miles east of town. A converted washing machine drives gears and a heavy cable pulls the box along a steep wooded path with pulleys and markers to show destination. The run takes about two and a half minutes each way despite snow sleet mud and rain.
