Government hog prices attract farmers
The emergency hog marketing program offers farmers higher prices for pigs weighing 275 pounds or more and aims to secure parity pricing next year. Officials of the Indiana Farm Bureau note the plan reduces marketing by 12 to 16 percent in 1933 34, boosting prices by about 28 to 40 percent for the season's remainder and about $1 to $1 50 per hundredweight. The program allows up to 4 000 000 pigs and 1 000 000 sows to be marketed, financed by a domestic hog tax of about half a cent per hundred live hog.
