Miner survives watermelon truck crash near Arlington
Gilbert Miner, once of this place, was injured when his machine hit a westbound truck carrying watermelons two miles east of Arlington. The truck driver suffered a minor leg injury. Miner had a chin gash requiring five stitches and a chest wound. The other truck, driven by Bert West, stopped for a tire repair after removing its tail light for light. Miner was treated by Dr. Shauck and later returned home with his family. Some melons were eaten by bystanders.

Indiana University unveils the Engrav-O-Graph at the State Fair in the IU building. The machine uses photoelectric cell principles to cut directly from photographic negatives in about one tenth of current time and cost. Roads Opened After Experimental Tar and Oil Surface
The Arlington and Knightstown pikes have been treated with tar and oil as an experimental road surface. The routes are currently open to traffic and will close briefly for asphalt cement tests. Two or three hard surface types will be tested this fall as road work continues.

Death of John W Ball in this county after long illness
John W Ball aged about 85 died at home last Thursday evening after three years of ill health. A painter by trade later a contractor, he lived in the county all his life and was the last survivor of his family. Surviving children are Herbert E Ball of Maysville KY and Edgar E Ball of Richmond with three grandchildren. Funeral services were held Saturday at 2:00 p.m. at D P Dunn funeral home with Rev N L Schoolfield officiating. Burial was in Town Cemetery.

Tomato season late with good quality harvest
The tomato crop is unusually late due to hot dry July. Despite delays, tomatoes received are of very good quality. Local plant had two short runs on Tuesday and Saturday last week and will run again Saturday morning and next Wednesday.
