Mr and Mrs Marvin Pike announce the birth of a son John Michael born Wednesday morning September 4 in Carth weighing 6 pounds 8 ounces. Grandparents are Mr and Mrs Cecil Pike.
Teachers and students from Jackson Township schools gather for the 18th annual reunion at Memorial Park Rushville on Sunday September 15. A pitch-in dinner is served at 12 30 with an afternoon of reminiscences and old acquaintances.
Miss Hester Creswell daughter of Mr and Mrs Johnathon Creswell of Carthage wed Harold Vincent Webb Jr Friday night August 30 at 7 30 p m at Wesleyan Methodist Church Rev Robert Malone officiated with Cecil Creswell giving the bride in marriage and Mr and Mrs Norman Shelby as attendants before close family and friends.
Mr and Mrs Roy Stanley and daughter Reta visited Pvt. Bob Stanley at Fort Leonard Wood Missouri over the weekend. Mrs Stanley reports that Bob enjoys all letters and cards he has received.
James E. Webb, 10th district president of the Young Democrats, attended a State Executive Committee meeting of Young Democrats held at the French Lick-Sheraton Hotel in French Lick Indiana over Friday Saturday and Sunday.
Mr and Mrs Robert Stephens and their son from Carthage moved last weekend to Winsor Village near Indianapolis.
Mrs. Joseph Graff has accepted a position in the administrative office of Carthage Schools, taking on duties within the district. The move expands the district staff and reflects ongoing administrative staffing changes at Carthage.
Gary Allen McClurg and Larry Bramel both of Carthage have volunteered for three years in the Paratroopers. They depart Friday morning for their physical examinations.
Purdue University statisticians report a 26 percent rise to a 2,588,000 turkey crop in Indiana this year. Heavy breeds total over two million, light breeds 506,000, comprising about 20 percent of the mix. Prices in early 1957 run 15 percent below 1956 while feed costs rise 1 percent.
Mrs. Martha E. Whitehead announces a state wide luncheon meeting of the Indiana Federation of Women’s Republican Clubs. The event is set for 12:1 p.m. Wednesday October 9 in the Riley Room at the Claypool Hotel with committee members and decorations arranged by Indianapolis and Peru volunteers.
Rush County 4H club members announce state fair placings across several divisions. Winners include Sue Dunn for blue yeast rolls, Fay VanOsdel for red cookies, Sue Voiles for angel food cake, Louise Boyer for blue home improvement, Ruth Boyer for a white dress, Norman Richardson for white division 1 and 2 exhibits, David Stanley for white division 3, Dicki Walke for pink division 1 wildlife, Norman Richardson again for pink division 2 entomology, and Delbert Kramer, Fred Robbins, and Don White earning exhibitor ribbons in entomology.
Rush County hosts the Eleventh Annual Southeastern Indiana District 4-H Fat Steer Show and Sale in Rushville on September 14 1957 with 180 steers entered from 103 members across 10 counties. Grand Champion and Reserve prizes funded by sponsors include breed champions rosette ribbons and cash awards from breed associations. Judge Steve Reed Shelburn will adjudicate. trophies from Kroger and cash prizes from breed groups accompany the sale starting 1 00 p.m with weights and records handled by Indianapolis Producers Marketing Association. Rush County contributes 34 exhibitors and 62 steers.
Parents must bring their child’s birth certificate for official kindergarten registration on September 16 at 9 am in the Carthage School building. Mrs Opal Flick will supervise and teach kindergarten. Children must be five on or before October 15 to enroll.
The Rush County Agricultural Outlook meeting will be held in the Assembly room of the Courthouse in Rushville at 7 45 p m on Wednesday September 18. County agent C L Spuller invites farmers homemakers land owners and others interested in the outlook for general business and farming. Purdue economist Paul Mitchell will discuss questions on farm prices and the farming business in the year ahead.
Purdue extension dairyman G A Williams urges careful use of DHIA data to boost profits. He cites a southern Indiana herd with 4486 pounds hay and 4835 pounds grain per cow annually, notes a 10 000 pound milk producer had higher grain use than a 13 000 pound producer, and recommends 1 pound grain per 3 5 pounds milk and 1500 2000 pounds grain per cow yearly. He flags too little hay and silage, too few milking days, and urges 6 8 week rest, fall calving, and culling nonproducers. Personal notes list multiple local visits and social ties across Indiana.
County coaches outlined a fall schedule for seven teams after Raleigh High School was abandoned. Morton Memorial joins ISSC Home with a 3:30 pm slate from September 6 to 27, followed by a playoff drawing at the fall coaches meeting later this month.
Indianapolis promoters report the Hoosier Hundred set for Sept 14 at the Indiana State Fair Grounds attracting veterans Tony Alderman Bettenhausen and Linden and rookie Herman. The Tweedy Community Center Association will hold its annual meeting next Tuesday night September 10 at the Center. Voters paying taxes to Ripley Township or Carthage Corporation elect new officers for next year and name three new directors. The nine member board includes six holdovers. terms run three years. Officers to be named include president vice president secretary and treasurer.
Don McColley of Carthage underwent an emergency appendectomy at Rush Memorial Hospital on Tuesday night at 10 p.m. The procedure was performed by hospital staff to address a sudden abdominal condition.
On Saturday August 24 the Carthage Grove of the Tall Cedars held its Fourth Pilgrimage initiating about forty candidates. The event began at noon with registration and a banquet at the Community Center followed by a program in the auditorium and a parade to the High School Gym for initiation. Names include Don R.
