Mr and Mrs Norman McCorkle and daughter Deborah relocated to 703 West McKenzie Road Greenfield Indiana while Mr and Mrs Logan Nelson moved to North Main Street Fortville The house was bought from Mr and Mrs Oliver Earnest and was previously rented by Hubert Hill Brandywine Township will hire Mary Louise Hill now living in Greenfield to teach grades five and six at Brandywine Township School near Greenfield Organization day is set for August 30.
The Ninth Naval District in Great Lakes appoints E Lee Patton as commanding officer of the Naval Reserve Mobilization Team Division 9 17 based in Indianapolis Indiana. The unit, consisting of officers and enlisted personnel, holds Monday meetings at the Naval Reserve Armory in Indianapolis.
The Howard Reunion will be held on Sunday September 1 at the Knightstown Shelter House in Knightstown Park.
Co. H. S. C. The Christian Helpers Sunshine Circle will meet next Wednesday September 4 at the church replacing the usual Thursday meeting day.
Jim Lukens purchases the Marathon Service Station from Melvin Mc Corkle and assumes operation on Saturday August 4.

James Webb and his parents Mr. and Mrs. Everett Webb and Mrs. Carrie Bramel returned Tuesday evening from a twelve day motor trip to Florida. They spent most of the time visiting various cities and places of interest for an enjoyable vacation.
Mr and Mrs Elmer Fenner and their son Larry returned Sunday night from an eight day trip to Mackinac Island Michigan They visited Bayne Mountain and the Kellogg Cereal Company at Battle Creek Michigan and spent a few days with Rev and Mrs Kenneth Kuebler and family at Fulton Michigan
Mr and Mrs Vernon Fraze of Ft Wayne are the parents of a 9 pound 1 ounce daughter born Wednesday August 28 the granddaughter of Mr and Mrs Roscoe Brown.
The M Y F met at the church Monday evening with twenty seven in attendance. The group sang prayed and discussed the MYF Emblem. They will conduct Sunday morning service in Rev. Davis's absence and Lois Hawkins presided. The watermelon feed was dropped and plans for fall meetings will be decided next week. Jeannine Terhune secretary invites all youth.
H Oran Henley retired in Carthage recalls founding the first local telephone network. He helped form the Ripley Farmers Telephone Co in 1900, oversaw lines and exchanges, later joined Carthage Telephone Co, with system growth to about 1500 subscribers before General Telephone buyout.
Rev. Shockney received honorary degrees and ordination from the American Evangelical Christian Church Association on July 31. He was commended for his scholastic record at Berean Bible College and the Chicago Evangelistic Institute. He serves as pastor of the Carthage Friends Meeting and pursues a ThD through the American School of Divinity.
The stated meeting of Rush Lodge No. 580 F and AM is scheduled for Wednesday September 4 1957. E Lee Patton serves as secretary and will preside over the gathering.
Indiana State Board of Health and Indiana Tuberculosis Association teams up with county groups to offer free chest X rays at the 1957 Indiana State Fair. Two mobile units will operate daily from 9 AM to 9 PM near the main gate with volunteers assisting and answering questions. The program marks the association’s 50th anniversary and aims to survey fair-goers statewide.
Dr. George B. McNabb commander and Ralph Henderson adjutant attended a meeting and schooling at the National American Legion building in Indianapolis Sunday. Carthage leads the state for over membership quota.
A pre conversion banquet celebrated General Telephone’s new dial system for Carthage. The event honored longtime operators Vivian Davis and others as the old switchboard faded. A Arlington Company representative and Mrs. attended, with John Allen Ruby providing organ music and Christian Church ladies serving a fine dinner.
Local guests led by L H Meyer and Beile attended a ceremony at the Carthage church basement as the General Company activated its automatic dial system. Officials described the project, staged a live test, and noted some 500 calls in service with remarks from Ora Clayton and A W Winfield.
At 9 pm on Wednesday August 28 residents watched a manual system switch to automatic dialing in a $177,000 upgrade. General Telephone Company of Indiana executives explained Carthage’s evolution from early two-operator days to six operators serving about 600 phones, with 1,045 anticipated by 1975.
Mrs Harriett Butler 77 of Miami Beach Florida died Saturday at Mayo Clinic Rochester after a year illness. She was born May 21 1880 in Spiceland and lived in Carthage and Indianapolis before moving to Florida 18 years ago. Survivors include husband Charles Butler a niece Mrs Marjorie Dressell and two nephews Russell Ratliff and Harold Ratliff. Services conducted at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Carthage area home with burial in Walnut Ridge Cemetery.
The Carthage Legion Auxiliary met at the Carthage Community Center for a regular meeting and officer installation. Hazel Alexander presided with Dora Ray giving the prayer. Officers installed included president Hazel Alexander and others for 1957 58. Penny collection and Fall Festival plans were noted.

Mr and Mrs Dick Hurley of Cleveland Ohio were Monday guests of Mr and Mrs Charles Moore. Mr and Mrs Roscoe Brown accompanied their grandchildren Carol and Dwight Fraze to their home in Ft Wayne Wednesday.
Special services begin September 1 1957 at Carthage Indiana with installation and morning evening sermons by Rever end Forest Crider of Greenfield Indiana. Music by Smith Quartet Hamilton Ohio. From September 2 to 15 evangelist Kenneth Biden leads revival nightly at 7 30 with Greensboro Gospel Quartet.
Relatives gathered Sunday at Mrs. Elmer Hunts home west of Carthage for the Hunt reunion. About seventy guests enjoyed a noon prayer by Clarence Hunt, a business meeting led by president Robert Hunt, and a program with musical numbers by Pamela Hunt and Gary Hunt. Contests and a wagon ride followed, with ice cream served and prayers at adjournment.
Mrs Charlies Miller and her daughter Debra of Anderson were house guests of Mr and Mrs. during a local social visit.
Mr and Mrs Edward McGarry and their son returned to their home in Morristown New Jersey after an extended visit in the home of Mrs Ann Stager.
