The Friends choir will host a reception Friday evening at 8 o clock at the church for Mr and Mrs Donald Winslow. All church members and friends are invited to attend.
Dr and Mrs C C Gause visited Milton last Thursday. Their guests included Mr and Mrs C C Gause of Cheyenne Okla. Mrs Geo M Kullimer of Peru was a visitor this week.
Businesses and offices announce special hours for Labor Day. The Library, Bank, and Citizen office will close all day. The post office operates morning and evening mail distribution with no rural delivery. Grocery stores close at 11 a.m. for the remainder of the day.
Mr and Mrs John Nibarger of Red Key visited Saturday with her sister Mrs Barbara Benson and Mr and Mrs William Dunn.
Edward White will teach at Bluffton and Charles Ruby becomes principal at Glenwood. Miss Marjorie Henley heads to Purdue soon, while Miss Mary Earnest returns to Decatur Illinois to teach today. Grace Doherty travels to LaGrange Illinois to teach English. Grace Overman Paters Miami University starts Sept 14. Marcella Lineback leaves for Greencastle to reenter DePauw University. Irene Carfield may reenter Muncie State Normal after vacation. Claribel Sipe resumes teaching at Waldron this Sunday. Maude Porter Ruth Henley Helen Siler and John Heim enter Muncie State Normal Oct 5. Helen Overman leaves for Marion to teach music in junior high at new building. Elizabeth Winslow departs for a few days in Muncie then Kendallville to be Central school principal. Eleanor Henley reenters Earlham College Sept 14.
Carthage schools will begin on Monday September 7 from 9 to 11 30 am with registration and book lists. Students urged to arrive at nine for a short session. regular lessons start Tuesday. text books available at McCarty’s drug store. New principal Paul W Linton arrives from Indianapolis after a Decatur city high posting.
At 7 30 p m on Tuesday September 15 1925 the annual meeting of Carthage Natural Gas Co stockholders will be held at the company office to transact business. H E Stager Secretary.
H J Catt of Anderson visited here on Wednesday. The canning factory has operated steadily since Tuesday morning with good prospect to continue. John D Holford who suffered a stroke is improved and able to walk at noon Thursday. He is at the home of A J Leisure northeast of Morristown.
A pre noon dispatch reports the giant airship Shenandoah exploded and fell near Marietta Ohio. Thirteen crew members were killed in the accident.
The Thomas and Tamar Hill family reunion met Sunday at the country home of Mrs Anna H. Phelps and daughter Mabel with a pitch-in dinner. Fifty-three people attended including numerous Hill relatives from Indianapolis Dayton Knightstown New Castle Raleigh Sheridan Wilkinson Greenfield and Salinas California. A plan to hold another reunion the first Sunday in September next year was approved.
Miss Rachel Martindale daughter of J. E. Martindale Pine Village and Charles Ruby son of Mr and Mrs Edgar Ruby near this place were quietly married Sunday evening at the bride's home. Mr Ruby was principal at Pine Village schools the past two years and will be principal at Glenwood this year. They are visiting his parents before leaving for Glenwood.
John F. Leisure N I Price and the Jesse A Leisure estate shipped 90 head of fat cattle nine carloads to United Dressed Beef Co New York City and Harrison N J. Swift Co bought the stock for 28938 dollars 80 cents with 16000 dollars going to the estate.
Mrs Alice Leisure and her daughter Dorothy spent Wednesday in Indianapolis enjoying a day of activities and sightseeing in the city.
