Violent Thunderstorm Strikes Area Wednesday Night
A strong electric rainstorm hit the area from 11 p m to 1 a m with sharp lightning. Water overflowed west roads Thursday morning and several telephones were knocked out between here and Shiveley's east. Lightning damaged an electric meter and loosened plaster at Mrs Sarah Stanley's Market street home. Temperature drifted from 72 to 82 degrees by Thursday noon.

The Post Office will open for morning and evening mails on Monday September 6 with no rural delivery. Banks and grocery stores will close. groceries stop at 10 a m. A Ford roadster owned by Earl McNamara of Rushville and a Dodge sedan owned by Harry Cross of Geneva were stolen Saturday night and Knightstown area auto thefts have risen. William L. Walker recalls a 63 year old frost that damaged corn as he leaves for a regiment move from his furlough in St Louis.

Mrs Elias E. Chappell Dies in Rural Home
Mrs Emma J. Chappell aged 65 died Tuesday morning at 7 30 at her Walnut Ridge area home 34 miles west of here after a lingering illness. Survived by husband Elias E. Chappell six children and three brothers. native of Ripley township she attended Earlham College and was a Friends Church and Missionary Society member. Funeral Thursday at 10 30 Walnut Ridge Friends Church Rev Harry J. Reese in charge burial Walnut Ridge cemetery.

Traction Car Collides With Auto Injuring Charles Murphy
Charles Murphy of southwest of here was seriously injured Thursday afternoon when his westbound auto was struck at a Charlottesville crossing by a fast traction car. He suffered a deep gash from forehead to chin and near an ear while returning from Fairmount where he had taken Mrs Murphy to a Wesleyan camp meeting. He had stopped at Anderson to visit their daughter and was reported improving at noon.
