The Rush County Farm Bureau held its annual convention in Rushville’s courthouse assembly room last week. Cecil Pike was re elected chairman. Rev Lyle Harvey led devotions with music by the Five Reeds. District fieldman Hallis Moon spoke on Organization and Glen Retherford gave a short address. Light refreshments followed.

School landscape project under way with saplings and evergreens

Five Years Meeting marks Earlham anniversary and campus dedications
The 50th anniversary of the Five Years Meeting was held in Richmond on October 18 and 19. Earlham College celebrated October 20-25 with the theme Religion and Science to Free Society as Science Hall and Meetinghouse were dedicated. Mary Jane Dalrymple wife of James Dalrymple died from polio at Robert Long Hospital Indianapolis after a month of illness. Born September 17 1922 she was a Knightstown High School graduate and a Friends church member in Carthage. Survived by four children husband parents sister Loretta Cole brothers Gerald Smith. Funeral services were held at the Friends church Carthage with entombment in East Hill Shrine mausoleum Rushville.

Barn saved from Sunday fire near Carthage
A smoldering blaze under a corn pen near Carthage was extinguished Sunday afternoon saving Finley Smiths barn. Firefighters from Rushville Rural Morristown and Carthage Town jeep aided access while Greenfield was called but unused. About 400 bushels of corn were lost from 1400 moved from the crib. A separate brush fire near John Rogers farm also threatened a corn pen and barn.
