The master of the universe sends four celestial artists to depict earthly beauty to inspire happiness. Each creates a vast, awe inspiring scene a distant mountain a rushing waterfall a stern iceberg and an endless ocean. The angels later notice ripe grapes in a vineyard suggesting a more human source of joy.
Judge James J. Emmert of Shelbyville will be principal speaker at a Republican rally Tuesday evening October 29 at the Carthage school building. The program begins at 7 30 p m with entertainment and school band music. Everyone is urged to attend this big rally.
Dr Ting Su native Chinese and Indiana University faculty member spoke to Carthage Service Club at East Street Christian Church during a ladies night. He discussed the Chinese Japanese conflict and praised Americans as friends. The event featured a feet identification game and a shoe surprise. Next meeting set for November 4 at Fletcher Methodist Church.
The Fletcher Methodist church held its annual home-coming services last Sunday with high attendance and twenty-nine visitors from nearby towns. Musicians performed during both morning and afternoon sessions, including instrumental and vocal numbers. Dr. J. T. Scull of Rushville delivered a sermon on "The Compassion of Jesus" and shared memories of his past pastorate.
The Choral club meeting for October 29 has been cancelled due to a meeting at the school building.
Mrs Weldon Newlin and Miss Mattie Clark attended the Indiana Library Association annual conference at the Leland hotel in Richmond on Friday October 18.
The Fletcher Methodist Church ladies announce a jitney supper to be held Saturday evening November 2 at the church. Proceeds support church activities and community outreach. Tickets available at the church office or from members.
The Rushville Republican marked its 100th birthday with an 80 page edition featuring historical items and feature articles. The staff dedicated many hours of research to the project and extended congratulations on a century of local journalism.
Governor M. Clifford Townsend announced the eight page questionnaire process aided by advisory boards formed by congressional district. District chairmen are school superintendents. Rush county boards list Thomas Fogarty as district chairman and Charles M. De Munbrun as county chairman with advisors Wm. F. Marshall and L. A. Lockwood.
Several local women attended a Democratic tea Tuesday afternoon at the Shirley area residence of Mrs. Walter Hammer. Attendees included Mrs. Ray Gurley Mrs. George B McNabb Mrs. Kenneth Bush Mrs. Harold Ruby and Mrs. Fred B. Sims.
A partial list from Ripley and Carthage townships shows serial numbers followed by names of draftees registered under the Selective Service on October 16. The first draft lottery is scheduled for Tuesday October 29, with several typist errors noted in the roster.
Springer and Republican county candidates toured Rush county stopping at Carthage, Mays, Raleigh, Falmouth, Fairview, Glenwood, and Orange before a New Salem rally. Bernie Watkins spoke to about four hundred at Carthage High School.
Miss Genevieve Brown of Indianapolis spoke at a tea for Republican women hosted by Mrs. Hamil D. Henley. Mrs. Ralph Winslow presided, with Mrs. Alva Bitner introducing the speaker. Maude Porter sang, tea served, about seventy-five guests attended.
Mr and Mrs Grant Henley have word from Mr and Mrs Co G Hill that they arrived safely in Hollywood Florida after a pleasant motor trip. The Parishes, on vacation, visited the Hills and the four then toured Miami Beach and other noted spots.
Mr and Mrs James Bowen and daughter Anne plan a move to Indianapolis. Mr Bowen has been with Shell Oil in Terre Haute and will transfer to the Indianapolis office where he will work.
Captain F R Grunder announces the Flying Cadet examining board will visit Fort Wayne October 22 to 28 Lafayette October 29 to November 6 and Indianapolis November 8 to 12.
Mr and Mrs Ben Neal spent the weekend with Mr and Mrs J S Cooley at West Lafayette. Mrs Neal s brother S H Sheppley and sister Miss Louise Sheppley of Chicago were also guests in the home.
The Rush county Young Democrat club sponsors a rally and dance at Carthage Auditorium on Friday night. Democratic candidates present include Dwight Beckner for prosecuting attorney. An address follows after the business meeting, then a dance from ten to twelve in the ballroom. Fred B. Sims and Mrs. Jean Sullivan Craig hold club offices. Public invitation extends to all.
Attendees including Mr and Mrs Walter Chonan Mr and Mrs Bayard Baker and Miss Winona Newsom gathered for the Five Years Meeting in Richmond Sunday afternoon and the dedication of Quaker Hill tea for nearly 800 guests Elbert Russell spoke and Thomas Jones Fisk University president addressed the gathering Former Carthage pastors James Furbay Charles Whitely Nathan Pickett Herschell Folger and Cecil Haworth also attended with dinner at Quaker Inn.
Rev and Mrs C V McMillan and daughter Janet Mae with Mrs Saraly Stager Mrs Frank Overman and Mrs J A Lineback attended the Fall District Conference and a meeting of the Women’s Christian Service of Methodist churches held in Rushville Tuesday.
Rev and Mrs Wayne Newcum of Abingdon Illinois announce the birth of a son named John Paul born Monday October 14 in Abingdon.
