Judge James Emmert of Shelbyville spoke pointedly against the current administration and argued WPA funds should fund defense and airports. Donald Staten Jr. of Carthage earned third prize with a three Angus steer pen at the Indiana 4-H fat steer show in Indianapolis stockyards. Plot to blow up U S transport Republic foiled
A thwarted plot aimed at the U S transport Republic occurred while en route from San Francisco to the Panama Canal with 3000 troops and passengers aboard. A smoking box was found in the hold by H F Dodds master of arms aboard the Republic. Edgar Stinger a former Cartage boy is chief oiler on the vessel for many years.
