Ernest Roberts of Mansfield Ohio is visiting. October weather has been fine except for rain and a heavy frost. Sheriff Coons detained three Knights Town residents after a car crash. one woman injured and liquor allegedly found. Several local residents traveled to DePauw University and Indianapolis for visits.
One hundred sixteen callers greeted Mr. and Mrs. William P. Henley on their fiftieth wedding anniversary. The event featured ice cream cake, a Golden Book guest register, and yellow floral decorations. Out of town guests included families from Greenfield Knightstown Indianapolis Marion Miami Hartford City Dublin and Terre Haute.
Mr and Mrs Albert Brooks and Mrs Brooks sister Miss Hi Brooks of Indianapolis were injured about 11 a m Wednesday near the east edge of Irvington. Miss Brooks sustained a dislocated left hip and facial cuts, taken to a nearby home then to the city hospital. Mr Brooks had a cut and bruises after his Buick was struck by a Chevrolet sedan driven by Mr Nolen, causing the Buick to hit a brick column. The injured trio later traveled to Indianapolis in Nolen’s car.
Loren Meyer four years old son of Rev and Mrs J I Meyer suffered a broken left hip Sunday afternoon after falling from a circle swing on West First street playground. He struck a slide and was moved Monday to Methodist hospital in Indianapolis where he will stay about six weeks. The parents were nearby at a home when the accident occurred.
William Leisure relapsed earlier this week while Ed Adkins shows unimproved health. Visitors include Clint Adkins of Akron Ohio and Ed Shields of Greensburg. Samuel Hill of Seattle led a Queen Marie of Roumania reception in New York and will supervise a six coach train to Maryhill Washington for a museum dedication on November 3. A Portland trip will follow, arriving November 4 in Seattle. Edgar N. Hill of Seattle assists with preparations. Extra-city visitors include Jesse Addison and family in Shelbyville and Agnes Winslow of Cleveland staying with the Winslows. The list includes several Indiana residents visiting relatives across the state.
O O Griffin and family move to 831 South Main Wichita Kansas. W W Grose from Morristown to Connersville then Chicago to spend winter with son Glen Grose. Margaret Hill McCarter to speak at Republican meeting in Spiceland. Rev Charles O Whitely preaches at University Friends Church Wichita. Charles A Lineback of Los Angeles writes seven west coast trade journals. Earl Bishop son of Mrs Babe Bishop of Shirley burns arm and hand then hit by automobile. grandson of Luther O Neal. Mrs Bishop wins auto in newspaper contest.
Organizers from business, farming and other groups establish a permanent Men’s Community Club with tentative by-laws to foster goodwill and improve social moral and sanitary conditions. Ruth Reddick’s contest names it. Regular meetings every other Tuesday. Yearly fee two dollars. Dinner 60 cents. Officers include President R H Hill and others. Domestic Science class served dinner.
James Milton Brooks age 78 longtime township resident and Civil War veteran of Co. E 9th Indiana Cavalry died suddenly at home from heart trouble. Survived by widow and eight children, service details include enlistment 1863 Carthage, Hood pursuit, hospitals New Orleans Vicksburg St. Louis, discharge 1865, marriage 1872 to Mary E. Woodley. Funeral Friday 10 am Walnut Ridge Friends Church.
James Tarbet returned home from Rushville for the weekend. Mrs Kolema Hahn was able to come home from an Indianapolis hospital last week and her condition is improving.
The M. E. Ladies' Aid will hold a Market and Rummage Sale Saturday afternoon and evening in R. C. Hill's room east of the telephone exchange.
Conrad Kizer offers comb honey at 20 cents per pound and strained honey at 15 cents per pound in a local sale.
Thomas E. Sellen secretary treasurer of Dixon Board Mills Inc died Monday afternoon in Ohio. A telegram from Cleveland says he was in a hospital there. He had been in Massillon, Ohio, for two months with illness described as inward goitre and complications. He leaves a son in Massillon and his mother in Minneapolis.
A notice invites the public to a Saturday afternoon and evening sale at R. C. Hill's room on East Mill street with wedding invitations and announcements printed at the office.
