Parvel Moore of Carthage announces a next week canvass by volunteers to meet a Ripley Township quota of 1800 dollars. He serves as United Fund Chairman for Ripley Township.
Mr and Mrs Lowell Brown and children Jerry and Linda traveled through southern Indiana visiting Santa Claus Lincoln City and Tell City. En route home they passed Brown County where guests included Bob Fancher and his son from Arlington.
Mr and Mrs Wilbur McCorkle returned to Carthage after visiting a Corporation plant. They then toured the Bellingrath Gardens near Mobile and Fort Gaines at Dauphin Island, visited New Orleans for two days, and finished with four days of fishing at Conway Arkansas.
Mrs Barbara Norfleet of Carthage and Mrs Keith Ray are among patients entering hospitals in Indiana for treatment and observation. Others include Kristine Kendall at St Vincents in Indianapolis and William Redmaker at Rush Memorial. Several patients are described as showing improvement or being very poorly.
Eleven members attended the Monday evening session at 6 30 p m of the Triple F at Carthage Friends Church. Janis Perry opened with devotions, roll call cited a Bible verse, Kenneth Shirk gave the lesson, and Rev and Mrs Shirk served refreshments after.
The Carthage group will meet Monday October 15 at 7 30 p m at the Community Center to discuss activities and plan events.
Twenty six members and guests attended the regular Ergon Class party at the church new addition on Sunday evening October 7. Gene R. Gardner presided with prayer by Annalee Lynch. Rex and Linda Edwards hosted and led a devotional on How to Read the Bible. Plans for future meetings were discussed and the gathering adjourned.
The case against Melvin McClurg, charged with assaulting, resisting and interfering with a peace officer, was continued to a later court date. The proceedings paused as the defense awaits further action.

Members planned to collect 350 bushels of walnuts for a state local project and heard a talk by Robert Haynes of Indianapolis on public speaking and leadership. he announced a Dale Carnegie course planned for Rushville and invited Lions to attend. The next meeting is Monday, October 22.
A Friday morning crash west of Carthage involving a car driven by Fairs Conley and a gravel truck driven by Herbert Willard left five people injured. Conley, his wife Thelma, their son Bradley, daughter-in-law Bonnie, and two-month-old grandchild sustained various injuries. Willard and a nurse on scene assisted. Willard received medical treatment for facial wounds. The truck spilled gravel at the Walnut Ridge and Charlottesville Roads junction around 10:30 a.m.
Arlington High School captured the Rush County baseball title for the second straight year by beating Milroy 42 in Friday’s final. Dave VanOsdel delivered a two RBI seventh inning hit, while Arlington pitcher Edwin Beckner fanned 11 and walked two. Milroy’s Tom Hood struck out four but issued six walks. Carthage Raiders were eliminated by Milroy 7-2 in the county tournament.
Lackland AFB Texas reports Airman Basic David L. Pitts son of Mr and Mrs Ivan L Pitts Rushville Indiana is reassigned to Greenville AFB Mississippi for training as a United States Air Force medical service specialist. Pitts completed the first phase of training here and was selected for the specialized course based on his interests and aptitudes. He is a 1958 graduate of Rushville High School.
Mrs Russell Siler and Karen hosted a Friday night surprise for Sue Silers 17th birthday with guests Kerry Anita Leisure Faust Linda Harrold and Canrgil present.
Mrs Mary Gardner of Shelbyville visited her son Eugene Gardner and family from Tuesday to Sunday. Several families traveled to see relatives including the Nelson, Martin, Lowe, and McClurg clans. Attendees shared dinners, card games, and weekend gatherings at homes across Carthage, Rushville, and nearby towns. A Fletcher Methodist advisory notes Rally Day and a church meeting, with notices of visitors from Tell City, Vevay, and Anderson.
The October Christian Women Fellowship gathering occurred last Thursday at the church with hostesses Mrs. Noah Leisure Mrs. Hen ry Jessup and Mrs. Josie Nigh. President Mrs. Luther Hull chaired the session opening with group singing and reports including secretary’s and devotionals. A memorial service for Mrs. Dinnie Moore was led by Mrs. Hull and Mrs. Alexander. The No Class Picnic lesson on Our Ministry To Special Needs was presented by Mrs. Donald Ruby. Army PFC Cary L. Ellis of Knightstown Indiana participated in FALLEX a large scale NATO exercise in Germany. The ten day event ended late in September and tested combat readiness of European forces. Ellis serves as a radio operator with the 32d Signal Battalion Company B in Germany. He joined the Army in March 1961 and prior to overseas duty trained at Fort Leonard Wood and was stationed at Fort Gordon. Ellis is a 1960 Southwestern High School graduate.
Michael Ian Davis five year old son of Mr and Mrs Philip Davis of Franklin and grandson of Mr and Mrs Roscoe Davis is recovering from a broken neck vertebrae suffered in a minor auto accident. X rays show healing progress.

A truck driven by Richard Robertson with a beginner's permit caused a chain reaction on West Mill Street last Monday afternoon. It struck four parked cars belonging to Ercel Bever Jr., Al Stapp, Leon Whitfield, and Herbert Fannin, then stopped against a light pole. Damages totaled about 1500 dollars. charges are pending.
Mr and Mrs Fred Pfieffer of Elmhurst Illinois visited Friday through Tuesday with Mr and Mrs Louis Humes. Earl Addison joined 40 relatives for a Sunday dinner at Fairmont Indiana. Friday guest Henry Terhune of Milroy stayed with James Terhune and Roscoe Brown. Sunday visitors included Jim Terhune Indiana University Fran Way and Herschell Foster. Edward Roland spent the weekend with relatives in Knightstown. Gary Siler of Tri State College Angola was a weekend guest of his parents Russell and family.

In southwestern Indiana buffalo and channel catfish are common with worms and sour mussel bait. bass on artificial lures. crappies on minnows. bluegills on flies and worms. Northeast lakes run clear with bluegills and crappie on red worms and minnows, pike on big minnows.
