United Fund Drive to Start Here in Carthage
Carthage kicks off the United Fund Drive with Kappa Kappa Sigma sorority members canvassing the town. Co chair Lewis Lafuse will supervise rural areas. Ripley Township quota is 1300 dollars and Rush County quota 40000 dollars. Eleven agencies are affiliated and donors will designate how contributions are split among agencies.

Paul Winslow of Downey California visited his mother Mrs Ione Winslow here while en route home from Cleveland Ohio. He and his mother attended the dedication of the Lilly Library at Earlham College. Miss Amy Winslow of Baltimore formerly of Carthage received an honorary Doctor of Letters. She is related to the late Howard Winslow.

BBA Meeting Plans Thanksgiving Drawing in Carthage
The Better Business Association of Carthage met at Geise's Restaurant for the October session. Mrs. Kenneth Rhodes led the meeting while Robert Winters read the minutes and treasurer's report. Plans were set for a November 23 drawing at 7 p.m. offering four turkeys and four hens. Eligibility: age sixteen+, one gift per family, members excluded, present to win. A committee of Winters, Clyde Ruby, and Lloyd Manuel was named to organize the event. Next meeting is November 5.

Carthage Fall Festival Draws Big Crowds and Festive Parades
Large crowds enjoyed the 1963 Fall Festival with a Queen pageant, Smorgasbord, Garden Club show, art colony display, and veteran crafts. Children’s games featured many winners in wheelbarrel and sack races, bean roll, and other contests. A colorful Saturday parade showcased floats, bands, and 110 piece Arlington Manilla band, honoring the 1963 queen and sponsors.
