Mr and Mrs Elmer Mank returned home last week from a two week vacation spent in Kentucky the Smoky Mountains and Ohio They visited relatives and friends in Kentucky and also visited Mr and Mrs Bill Boggs and Mr and Mrs Joe Roe and family at Portsmouth Ohio

Mrs. A W Winfield of Carthage enters Rush Memorial Hospital on Saturday for tests and observation.
Carthage Parent-Teachers Organization will meet at the Community Center on Tuesday October 12 1965 at 6 00 p m. The event honors teachers with a pitch-in supper. Attendees are asked to bring a well filled basket and coffee will be provided by the committee.
Mr. and Mrs. Omer Heim and son Rick and Rick Hampton spent from Friday until Sunday at the Heim cottage on Lake Freeman. Mr. and Mrs. Ronnie Straper and daughter were weekend guests at the Wrightsman cottage. Sunday guests of the Heim family included Mr. and Mrs. Norman Edwards and family and Kathy Heim along with Mr. and Mrs. Bob Winters and their children.
Mrs. Forrest Beck and Mrs. Fred Sandefur represented the local Auxiliary at the American Legion Auxiliary conference for President and Secretary, held at the War Memorial building in Indianapolis. The luncheon was at the Continental Hotel and the banquet at the Severin Hotel. The theme was Flight In Space.
Norman Edwards and Mary Alice Edwards were charged with assault and battery of Susan Edwards on South Main Street in Carthage on Sept 30. Both pleaded not guilty and were released on their own recognizance. Trial dates set for 1:30 p.m. October 25 by JP Robert Hinshaw.
Pastors and wives quarterly meeting of the Indiana Yearly Meeting took place Monday at the Winchester Meeting House. Attendees from the area included Mr. and Mrs. Russell Nigh Walnut Ridge Church Mr. and Mrs. Harry Cooper Charlottesville Friends Meeting Jacob Pierce Greenfield and Joe Stagner Little Blue Church.
Bernie Augustine 82 of Center Township died Wednesday at Jackson Nursing Home after a long illness. He formerly farmed north of Center Church and spent years in Lewisville and Rushville nursing facilities. Born December 27, 1882, he was the son of George and unnamed Augustine. his wife Lula died in 1955. He leaves no immediate survivors.
Funeral services set for Myrtle Henley widow of Judge William J. Henley who died suddenly at her Walnut Ridge Road home. She was a former governess at the Indiana Soldiers and Sailors Home and a Carthage resident for 47 years. Survived by daughter Betty Skinner and five grandchildren. Burial at Riverside Cemetery.
Rush County Extension reports 22 five acre corn fields averaged 30.7 percent moisture. Seventeen fields yielded intersection trends with 155.2 bushels per acre overall. 15 farms also checked in 1964 and 13 in 1963 show higher 1965 yields. Checks continue for 147 farmers until October 18 to finalize results.
Mr. and Mrs. Claude Pearson hosted a birthday dinner Sunday honoring Claude Pearson and his son Tom. Guests included Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Pearson, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Jessup of Carthage, and Ollie Brown of Arlington, R. R.
Mrs. Paul Scott of Carthage R1 joined twenty three members of Terre Haute Indiana based Jolly Travelers Club on a three day tour to Meramec Caverns in Missouri and St. Louis. The group toured caves including Jesse James hideout and cave and visited Shriner's Children's Hospital Shaw's Gardens Botanical Gardens Zoo and Gaslight Square. They traveled by bus Saturday morning and stayed overnight at Meramec Caverns then spent Sunday in St. Louis before returning. Mrs. Scott had visits with relatives in Merom prior to the trip and rode with Nora Pierson.
Congressman Ralph Harvey said Indiana is eligible for about 18.38 million dollars in Title I federal aid for local school districts. He released county breakdowns for the 10th District and noted Marion County totals, with private and parochial students eligible for programs. He stressed the aid targets low income children and warned the formula may favor wealthier districts. The program is administered through the U.S. Office of Education and the Indiana State Department of Education.
The Carthage High School PTO hosts a cooperative supper at 6 00 p m on Tuesday October 12 in the Tweedy Memorial Community Center followed by a short business meeting. School pictures are set for Wednesday October 13.
A 1955 item notes Mr and Mrs Sherman Dye welcomed a son born October 3 at Rush Memorial Hospital with Dye in the army at Ft Leonard Wood. Also moved: Mr and Mrs Russell Siler on Fred McManus property R R 2 Carthage. Vonnie Church had major surgery at Hancock County Hospital Greenfield. The Afternoon Bridge Club dined at Kopper Kettle Morris town then played bridge at Gertrude Bush home.
Sharon Kay Sammons was named Miss Congeniality of 1965 by the Fall Festival Queen contestants at the festival dance. She is sponsored by Windsor's Store and is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Sammons of Carthage, recent fiancé of Michael Dalrymple of Andersonville. The 20th Fall Festival featured the Battle of the Bands won by the Decaturs of Greenfield amid a crowd of about 260, plus children’s contests, a festival parade, and a closing dance with prizes awarded to Sammons and others.
Morton shells Carthage 3-0 as Jerry Coleman no-hits with eight strikeouts in six innings. Milroy defeats New Salem 11-1 as eight hits help Milroy claim the win. Host teams win both semifinals postponed from Friday.

Carthage Chapter No. 574 OES holds a stated meeting at 7 30 p m on Wednesday designated as Master Mason night. Members are urged to attend and guests are welcome.
Miss Karen Graff bride elect of Gary Siler of Carthage was guest of honor at a Thursday night bridal shower at the Beech Grove home of Mrs. Richard Rokosch in Indianapolis at 7:30 p.m. Attending were her mother Mrs. Joseph Graff and Mrs. Russell Siler of Carthage.
