At a public meeting the Community Center Board named three new directors for three year terms. Mary Joseph Howard Windsor and Mary Tweedy were announced. Officers will be chosen by the nine directors at the next regular meeting in November.
The Republican Caravan touring Indiana will stop in Carthage today at 3 25 PM for about thirty minutes with state candidates present to meet voters. Other Rush County stops include Milroy and Rushville.
Carthage High School fell 9-3 to Manilla in opening county tourney play on the local diamond. Milroy defeated Mays 11-3, and New Salem edged Morton 10-9 in 11 innings. Milroy then beat New Salem 11-9 to reach the finals. Manilla eliminated Arlington 4-1. The final will feature Milroy versus Manilla.
Plans for a Saturday night wiener roast and record hop were finalized at a Rushville GOP Headquarters meeting. President Bill Green announced 22 members enrolled and urged all Republican youths ages 14 to 19 in the county to join.
The Legion members will meet at 8 p.m. next Wednesday at the Community Center.
John Loren Griffith aged 21 of Greenfield a service station attendant and Ruby Jane Loveall aged 16 of Carthage a waitress obtained a marriage license.
Mr and Mrs Fred McManus plan the Florida winter stay in St Petersburg noting damage from the recent hurricane and a period of heavy rain since their arrival. Chi Rho met with 13 members 2 guests and 2 adults present. Judy Fannin led the Christian flag pledge and Jerry May the Bible pledge. The group sang led by May and Blessinger with Larry Bush on trumpet. Karen Siler gave the lesson and Jeanie Stapp led prayer. After meeting the Chi Rho group played games in the basement. Den 2 met at Mrs Ralph McClurg home with law of the pack promise and indoor games then outdoors ball ing and basketball. New den chief Mike Whitfield announced. Denner Tom Stevens.
Mr and Mrs Forrest Beck returned home Sunday night after an eighteen day trip through Louisiana Arkansas and Missouri They spent five days sightseeing in New Orleans one day at Shepard of the Hills and five days at Bull Shoals Lake Arkansas They enjoyed a varied itinerary including scenic views and lake leisure.
Mrs. Herbert Fannin recovering at home after major surgery at Henry County Hospital. Howard Henley underwent major surgery at Rush Memorial Hospital. Miss Patty McCorkle, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Paul McCorkle, confined to bed for several weeks due to illness.

Ertle Price of Posey Township was reelected president of the Rush County Agricultural Association at the annual meeting held Tuesday night. John R. White was re-elected vice president Harold Clifton Jr. secretary and Gail Abernathy treasurer. Eight new directors were elected for three year terms and building committee members were also re-elected. The fair board plans its winter banquet with a committee named to organize the event.
The Rush County Missionary Societies of the Christian Churches held an all day convention at Carthage East St Christian Church with eighty six guests. Officers for next year were elected: Mrs Richard Welk president and Mrs John Sefton vice president.
Mr and Mrs Larry Apple and family of Cicero Indiana were guests of relatives Saturday and attended the Fall Festival.
Large crowds attended Carthage Fall Festival week with events from an opening Lions Club Euchre Party to a Saturday night dance. Miss Diane Clark won the Festival Queen title amid strong parades, flower show results, and a talent show praised by locals.
Mrs. Clayton Todd buys the Mrs Myrl Mann property on West Mill Street and plans to move with daughters Pat and Sharon this month. The Creamers of Monrovia Indiana rent the 80 acre Todd farm. Mrs Myrl Mann buys the Ethel Collins property on Main Street downtown Carthage.
Carthage Garden Club plans a Tuesday afternoon meeting with Mrs Louis Humes as host. The Carthage P T O also schedules a Tuesday October 11 gathering at the Carthage Community Center to discuss the School Reorganization plan, inviting all parents to attend.
Miss Pam Hunt performs in the Civic Theater production Kiss Me Kate in Richmond Indiana this week as a member of the dancing ensemble.
A meeting between Boy Scouts parents and the scout committee is set for Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Community Center. Parents are urged to attend.
The 1960 Fall Festival parade on Main Street drew large crowds on a sunny afternoon. Notable entries included Legion Color Guard, Carthage High School Band, 1959 Festival Queen Miss Mardelle Wrightsman, and diverse floats from Lions Club to John Deere. Judges awarded prizes for floats and organizations, followed by a marching band contest, cake walk, and the queen’s crowning at the Community Center.
