County commissioners last Tuesday drew grand petit and special venire juries for Rush Circuit court opening Monday in Rushville. The panel includes Mr and Mrs Russell Johnson of Walker township and Mrs Johnson will serve on the grand jury.
Mrs. Collier writes gratitude for kindness shown during their year at the Carthage Methodist church. She and her husband Rev. W. B. Collier extend best wishes to the church as they depart for Morgantown and welcome Rev. R. H. Myers and family.
William T. Newhouse of Arlington, aged 83, died last Wednesday from a heart attack after years of declining health. Born April 3, 1853 in Posey county, he was a former blacksmith. His wife Mary Olive Downey died last April at 63. Funeral plans by L. W. Hauk pending. Survived by two daughters Mrs. Glen Moore and Mrs. Chas.
William Carner of Kendallville faced a puzzling incident when his cow named Bessie wedged a hoof through the barn rafters into the haymow. Neighbors aided in freeing the animal, and the cause of the ascent remained unknown.
Al J Carr the Republican nominee for joint senator from Rush Shelby and Fayette counties rose in one year from engineer's helper to foreman at a large paper plant. Born in St Louis he moved to Rush County and served in the U S Marine Corps air service. He married Alta Hiatt in 1922 and has two children Jimmie and Jackie. Carr became vice president of the Columbia Envelope Co and of the George W Swift Co and holds engineering society membership and professional engineer license.
Shelby Circuit Judge James A. Emmert urged county commissioners to form a chain gang to work on roads for non-support offenders. Prisoners would be paid fifty cents daily to deputies, and one dollar daily to be directed toward child or ex-spouse support. The idea aims to cut rising non-support cases in Shelby County.

Harry Rhodes justice of the peace married Minnie Johnson and Charles Kraft of Knightstown in Carthage last Saturday. He quipped to a Citizen reporter that he has done everything but preach a funeral and that some onlookers seemed as if a funeral were being preached when he held court.
Representatives of the Shelby county Red Cross meeting last Friday at the school administration building named James M. Pierce of Shelbyville chairman. Mr. Pierce succeeds Lawrence Reece who resigned due to business demands. Other officers are W. O. B. Cribbs vice chairman Miss Bertha Bowlby secretary and Charles M. Ewing treasurer. Pierce will call an executive meeting soon to select city and county roll call chairmen.
