Mr. and Mrs. Jack Tipton moved to Carthage R. R. 1 following his honorable discharge from the Army. Mrs. Tipton, formerly Patsy Finch, accompanied him, marking a recent relocation from Michigan.
Ten members of the Carthage Home Garden Club enjoyed a day out last Thursday at Glendale Shopping Center and attended the Judges' Christmas Flower Show at Glendale Auditorium. Attendees included Mesdames Albert Ray, Homer Hensler, Wilbur McCorkle, Louis Humes, Loyal Hunt, Ross Tweedy, Thomas Bush, Guy Ewing, Donald Ruby, and Forrest Moore.
Gary R. Siler son of Mr and Mrs J Russell Siler 202 N East Street Carthage has been elected vice president of the Inter-Dorm Council representing Atwood Cameron and Platt Halls at Tri-State College Angola Indiana. He is a student in the Motor Transportation Administration department at Tri-State College Tri-State College founded at Angola Indiana in 1884 grants Bachelor of Science degrees in five branches of engineering and in three majors in Business Administration.
The National Health Studio and Silhouette Studio at 218 S 14th St New Castle Indiana opened offering a fully equipped gymnasium steam room and sun room with individual instruction. Hours run 9 am to 9 pm with ladies days Wednesday and Friday and men's days Tuesday Thursday and Saturday. Manager and instructor on men's days is Mr John D Wood of Carthage and Mrs Wood will handle ladies' days. Mr and Mrs J H MacPherson invite the public to visit.
The Carthage Chapter OES marked its 17th anniversary at the Masonic Hall on Wednesday November 14 with charter members past matrons and patrons in attendance. Sweetheart roses were given and eighteen members were present as refreshments followed, served by Alt a Jordan Jean Alexander Mildred Jones and Joan Williams of Arlington.
A boy was born to Mr. and Mrs. Lynn Wilfong at Hancock County Hospital in Greenfield last Thursday. The birth occurred in Carthage area with the family residing on Route R. R. J. Carthage listed in the report.
Bert George announced his deputies who will take effect January 1. Former Sheriff Harry Levi and Wayne Peters will serve as daytime and night deputies respectively. Levi, a two term former sheriff, previously led Rushville police and served years as an officer.
Friends and neighbors of Mrs. Lowell Leisure and Mr. and Mrs. Jeff Leisure picked their corn crop Tuesday morning in a short period of time. At noon Elmer Fenner drove the workers to Geise's Restaurant by school bus for dinner. A special meeting will be held Sunday at 2 30 p m at East Street Christian Church Carthage for all church members to attend.
Miss Sue Mosier of Carthage and Purdue freshman placed third in a Pyrofax Gas Teenage Baking Contest at Richmond Armory. Twenty four area contestants baked with Southern Cocoanut Pie chosen by judges. Finalists advance to three Midwest centers with top prizes including luggage for winner and cameras for top ten.

Postmaster William E Alexander reports instructions from the Post Office Department asking rural patrons to clear weeds along roads traveled by carriers and keep approaches to mail boxes free of snow and obstructions to ensure service during winter.
The Methodist Friendship Class met Tuesday with thirteen members. Officers elected were Iva Cook as president Bernice Branson as vice president Mable Manche as secretary treasurer and Logan Nelson as assistant. Mrs Otto McCarty Miss Newsom and Mrs Manche hosted the meeting and refreshments followed.
The Better Business Association of Carthage awarded three turkeys and three hens in a Thanksgiving drawing Saturday night. Recipients named were John Jackson Jack Overman and Jay Davis for turkeys and Mrs John Wilson Laura Wells and Jesse DeWeese for hens.
Paul Turner of Marion College visited his parents Mr. and Mrs. Rey Turner on Sunday, describing a family weekend trip and returning to campus afterward.

Purdue safety specialist Dick Willsey cautions farmers during corn harvest to wear close fitting clothing and disengage power take off before leaving tractors. He warns against using corn stalks to clear clogs and urges stopping all machinery to clean, plus regular breaks to reduce fatigue.
Harold Victor Taylor died after a brief illness at Ball Memorial Hospital. He was 39 and lived in Anderson after moving from Muncie and Carthage. He taught choral and assisted band at Madison Heights High School and held Ball State degrees. Survived by wife Virginia and four children, service held at Meeks Mortuary with cremation following.

The Carthage Raiders defeated Manilla 55 38 to extend their winning streak to three games. After a slow start the Raiders pulled away late in the first half and built a solid lead with a sticky defense and fast breaks. Crisman and Swift led Manilla, while Carthage shot 24 of 58 from the field for 41 percent. The second team also beat Manilla Seconds 44 30 in the curtain raiser.
Parvel Moore reports Ripley township drive collected 1323.50 from solicitors through November 17. Township residents working elsewhere may sign up in workplace drives and donate later. Those missed may contribute to Moore Stager or McKain, with thanks from Moore for donors and volunteers.
Funeral services for Elijah Clay age 88 of Mt. Sterling Kentucky were held Thursday November 15 1962. He died Tuesday at Jane Cook Hospital Frenchburg Kentucky. Survived by widow Tressie Clay six sons five daughters and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. Burial at Washington Cemetery Brithnett County Kentucky.
Mr and Mrs Thomas Bash and Mr and Mrs Kenneth Bash with their families gathered for a Thanksgiving meal at the home of Mr and Mrs Charles Bash near Green field.

James B Terhune age 90 of Carthage died at his daughter’s home at 12 10 PM Thursday after seven months of poor health. He was born November 11 1872 in Decatur County son of Luke and Cemantha Miller Terhune. A longtime Rush County farmer he married Mattie J Hand January 13 1897 who died in 1959. Survived by one son Albert Terhune three daughters Helen Brown Irma Shankland Kendallville and Mary White eight grandchildren ten great grandchildren two sisters and one brother. Funeral 2 PM Saturday at Hampton Mortuary with Rev Jack Wallace. burial Glen Cove Cemetery Knightstown. Friends may call after 1 PM Friday.
Container Corporation of America's net earnings for the third quarter 1962 rose 22 percent to 4.989 million on sales of 89.199 million. Per share earnings reached 46 cents vs 38 cents a year earlier. Nine month sales totaled 254.42 million, up 4 percent, with nine month earnings at 13.959 million. The firm operates 73 U S plants and 47 overseas. Board raised quarterly common dividend to 22 1 2 cents and set record dates November 5 for payment November 23. A separate 1.00 per share preferred dividend is slated for November 30 with record date November 20.
Jesse Blessinger, 69, died after several days as a patient in a Tampa hospital. He had been in failing health about eighteen months. He leaves a wife Dow and six children, plus grandchildren and five brothers in the vicinity. Funeral services were held in Tampa with burial there. Brothers Walter, Freeman, and John Blessinger traveled from nearby states to attend the funeral.
Mrs Raymond Kennedy Mrs Lena Newsom and Mrs E P Stanley of Mays visited Mrs Newsoms cousins Mrs Amy Reardon and Mrs Myrtle Brandon at Franklin Sunday. Mr and Mrs Odell Pitts and family visited his mother Mrs Fred Pitts at Knightstown Saturday.
