Professional Men Eligible for Selective Service Training

Indianapolis November 20. Professional men including lawyers doctors and dentists and proprietors of one man businesses must be considered eligible for Selective Service training though community welfare will be protected. Director C A Dykstra said local boards will decide like other registrants with emphasis on national and local welfare. He noted hardships but said sacrifices are inevitable and that some face greater personal loss than others. He warned about fermenting cases where several services exist in a community.

Social Security Rep to Visit Rushville for Local Residents

The Social Security Board will send a representative to Rushville Indiana to assist employers and employees with in person information and help. The session at the Rushville Post Office runs November 25 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and will be held on the second and fourth Mondays each month at the same time until further notice.

Glenwood Bank Destroyed by Fire in Early Morning Blaze

The Glenwood State Bank on north and south street Glenwood burned out in a two story frame building. Rushville and Connersville fire departments fought the blaze but could not save the structure. Banking resumed the next day in the cashier T G Richardson's residence.

Wild Turkeys Once Flourished in Indiana Pioneer Days

Indiana conservation officials report wild turkeys are nearly extinct in the state despite release efforts. About 200 birds were liberated mainly in south central Indiana, but wardens say most disappeared or joined domestic flocks. The species is protected by General Assembly law with hunting or killing penalties.

Public Service Indiana adopts new liberal group life plan

Public Service Company of Indiana starts a new group life insurance plan funded about half by the company. Eligible permanent full time employees will receive term insurance from 1,250 to 10,000 with a paid up policy at age 65 after three years. The plan allows retention of full coverage if leaving or retiring by paying premiums. Since October 1 about 4,000,000 in coverage has been subscribed, much of it regular individual life insurance.

Mr and Mrs Ralph Mosier move into the Blessinger Smith property on North East street. Mr and Mrs Thomas Gabard and family relocate to the Walnut street home vacated by the Mosiers. Mr and Mrs Loyall Hunt move to the Lineback house on North East street, vacating by Robert Hunt. Mrs Olive Drysdale shifts to the Walter Phelps house on South Main street, vacated by Loyall Hunt. Mr and Mrs Bill Magee take the Gabard vacancy across the railroad.

Trapping Season Opens in Southern Indiana Zone

Trappers south of U S 40 in Indiana begin season next Monday November 25. The Northern Zone opened Friday November 15. Spencer hosts the state's only outdoor fur market on the Owen county courthouse lawn, a Civil War era institution still drawing buyers.

Delinquent Taxes Hit 13000 in Fall List

Miss Helen L. McClure Rush county treasurer reports more than 13 000 in current taxes entered the delinquent list for the fall period. Of 250 309 05 due this fall 236 917 39 was collected leaving 13 391 66 delinquent. Delinquent and moratorium taxes totaled 9 886 81 and 748 67 respectively, bringing the grand total collected to 247 552 87. A county unit by unit record follows.

The Carthage Raiders routed Raleigh Sir Walters 45 to 26 in a gym game. Spacey led with 17 points on seven field goals and three fouls, while Pete Ewing added 13. Raleigh's Smith and Redden had 10 and 8 respectively. The second team also won 25-11. Coach Charlie Morris seeks strong fan support for the season.
