Mrs Harold Taylor and Mrs Eugene R Gardner attended a Heart Conference at the Student Center Ball State Teachers College Muncie on Tuesday this week.
Mr and Mrs Sharon Hunt and family and Miss Janet Hunt of Ball State Teachers College attended Homecoming and Parents Day at Taylor University in Upland Indiana. Their son Steve is a sophomore at the university.
Mr and Mrs Russell Shutt report their son Russell Shutt Jr SP3 US Army in Korea has been selected to play for the Company basketball team and will serve as assistant coach for the Regiment team.
Mr. and Mrs. Ross Tweedy and Mr. and Mrs. H. B. McIlvaine of Indianapolis attended the National Retailers Lumber Dealers Convention in Philadelphia last week. They were away from Sunday to Friday.
Mrs. Joyce L. Rhoades of Carthage files divorce action against Herman R. Rhoades a soldier in Germany. They wed September 19 1952 and have been separated since July 30 1955. Custody of a minor child is sought.
LeBlazer Studio at Greenfield hosted a 3 p.m. Sunday piano recital. Participants from Carthage included Arlene and Kathy, Ruby, Anne Campbell, David Ruby, and Kelly Veach.
Judith Kennedy daughter of Mr and Mrs Raymond Kennedy entertained with a chicken dinner for her 14th birthday at home Tuesday evening. Schoolmates Kathy Ruby Mardell Wrightsman Clara Jo Henley Karen Graff Anne Campbell Pam Hunt and Shirley Hamilton attended. Games with prizes were played and several gifts were received by the honoree.
Pvt Gary Allen McClurg came home from Ft Leonard Wood Missouri to visit his parents Mr and Mrs Marcus McClurg over the weekend. Pvt Larry Bramel of Ft Leonard Wood Missouri will transfer this week to Ft Bragg North Carolina and spent the weekend with his parents Mr and Mrs Clarence Henley.
Mrs Stella Humes entertained Carthage Garden Club members Tuesday with President Ona Hunt presiding. Secretary Goldie Kyser delivered the report as members discussed roll call gift theme and planned planting 200 spring bulbs on the Carthage Library lawn. A fall arrangement decorated the meeting and refreshments were served.
The M Y F met Monday at the church with prayer and singing. Jim Terhune led a Bible quiz and the lesson on a Christian in Sports. Stan Lynch and Rev. Davis directed discussions. Pam Hunt chaired the business meeting and $100 was pledged to the Building Fund. Thirteen attendees joined recreation and refreshments.

Bearl Addison of Rushville township heads the Rush County Dairy Herd Improvement Association for October with 10 Jersey cows averaging 51.4 pounds of butterfat per cow. Four Addison cows exceed 60 pounds each. Runner-up is Jonas and Linville in Posey township with 27 Holsteins at 38.8 pounds. Third is Leo Hoeing and son with 29 Holsteins at 35 pounds. Other top producers include Harcourt, Caldwell and Binford, Fagan and Green, J. R. Brown, Gene Gardner, Voris and Girrard, and Marbro Farms with 28 Holsteins to 80 Holsteins.
Frank Hampton of Carthage and Robert Moster of Rushville attended the 12th district meeting of the Indiana Funeral Directors Association at Batesville Country Club Tuesday night. Election of officers resulted in Mr Hampton being chosen vice president of the district.

The W S C S of the Methodist church held a regular meeting at Mrs Esta Fenner s home assisted by Connie Fenner and Goldie Roland Gladys Mosley president pro tem led the meeting with Leone Mosier reporting The devo tions were given by Mrs Mayme McCarty Lena Newsom presented the lesson Christ on the Campus Helen Davis showed slides of her missionary brother and his wife in Brazil and a tape recording of his sermon Twenty one guests attended with refreshments served afterward
The Carthage American Legion Post 316 met at the Carthage Community Center on a Wednesday night with sixty members. A Muncie Post team presented a Memorial program honoring Harry Brakefield as he moved from the Carthage Post to the Post Everlasting. twenty members and seven guests attended.
Ernest S. Cook of Knightstown aged 74 died after a long illness in Henry County Hospital New Castle. Born in Columbus he spent 30 years with Bhuler Bros. and operated a chain of stores in Indianapolis before retiring to a Rush County farm in 1937. He was a Methodist and Red Men member. Funeral was Tuesday at Butcher Funeral Home Knightstown with burial Glen Cove Cemetery. Survived by widow Bessie a daughter Naomi Blackwell of St Petersburg Fla a son Garnett Cook of Indianapolis a brother and four sisters.
Ross Souder 78 died suddenly after a heart attack while raking leaves at his Greenfield home. He was a former Carthage resident and retired farmer, survived by wife Mabel, children Edna, Howard, Merrill, siblings, step relatives, eight grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Funeral 2 p.m. Friday at Flannigan Greenfield with Rev Mercy and Rev Herod officiating. Burial at Glencove Cemetery Knightstown.
The Parent Teachers Organization held its regular meeting Tuesday night November 12 at the Community Center. President Harry Cooper opened with Rev Barrett leading devotions. The group discussed the Thanksgiving Market. Speaker William F Smith Rush Decatur National Farm Loan Assoc Rushville spoke on Nonsense, Nonsense and Pennies. Refreshments were served by Mr and Mrs Robert McKain.
Carthage Lions Club met at the Community Center for a dinner meeting led by President James Ellis with roll call by William Skinner. They voted to furnish and decorate a large Christmas tree in the downtown area set up the first week of December.
Claude Pearson of Carthage is in Greenfield hospital for observation. Ira Meade of Sulphur Springs, ex Carthage principal, is seriously ill at Henry County hospital with no visitors allowed. Roy Small had major surgery at Rush Memorial hospital. room 241. Charles Bush steadier at Hancock County hospital Greenfield after a recent stroke. Vern Plummer remains at Rush Memorial hospital.
Miss Pam Hunt performed a tap dance on Sundays WLW Starmaker Revue from Cincinnati placing second among five contestants from Ohio and Indiana. She won a gold expansion bracelet, with the broadcast also seen on WLWI Channel 13 in color. She studies at Dixon Dance Studio Connersville and traveled with her father Hubert Hunt and Mr. and Mrs. Joe Duke of Pendleton, presented by Henry Zumculler of Connersville.
D E Carmony announced that General Telephone Company has purchased Arlington Company for 22100 and will file papers with the Indiana Public Service Commission. Delays were due to clearing titles and securing stockholder signatures including those of deceased holders. The franchise will be approved before service begins and a dial system installed within about ten months.
Roy Small, head shipping clerk at Container Corporation, retires after 35 years of service dating to 1922 with American Products Company. He also worked for Dixon Board Mills before Container Corporation, with a 27 percent pension on current terms. He plans a few weeks of bed rest after a recent operation.
The East Street Christian church formed a Young People Sunday school class for post high school students and young married couples.
The Carthage Band Booster organization will meet at the Carthage school building at 7 30 p m on November 19. The gathering aims to discuss band support and upcoming events.
Knightstown defeated Carthage 56 to 54 in a late thriller. Vaughn led Knightstown with 19 points and Riggs added 12 as Carthage built a late lead before Knightstown pulled away in the final seconds. Watkins scored 24 for Carthage with Parish adding 19. Carthage seconds won 41-28.
