Mr. and Mrs. George F. Winslow were honored with dinner to mark their 62nd wedding anniversary by Mrs. A. W. Allen. They attended the ninety-first homecoming at Second Baptist Church in Shelbyville on Sunday.
Carthage Chapter No 574 Order of the Eastern Star convened a called meeting Tuesday night at the Masonic Hall. Initiation was conducted for Virginia Wells with Ruth Byrd serving as proxy. Seasonal refreshments followed the proceedings.
Mr and Mrs Lyle Plank announce to friends in Car thage that they have moved from Ogden to Raysville with the change occurring on Saturday.
Mrs. Joan Fannin aged 84 was laid to rest in Olive Hill Kentucky on Saturday with Mr and Mrs Herbert Fannin and Mr and Mrs Virgil Fannin and their children in attendance. Mrs Fannin was the mother of Virgil Fannin and grandmother of Herbert Fannin.
Family Day at Carthage Friends will include Sunday school at 9 30 a.m. Worship at 10 30 a.m. A carry in dinner is planned at noon followed by an afternoon service at 1 30 p.m.
Cpl Max Robertson of the U S Marine Corps returns home for a 35 day furlough to visit his parents Mr and Mrs Roy Robertson after spending months in the Pacific Theatre area.
Mr and Mrs Donald Sparks announce the birth of an 8 lb daughter named Elizbeth Anne born Sunday at Rush Memorial hospital. Mr and Mrs Charles Morris and Mr and Mrs Alton Smith attended the Bloomington football game Saturday featuring Indiana University and Villanova.
The Carthage Nazarene church announces a revival from November 3 to November 10 led by Rev. Lelan J. Rogers, a returned missionary. Services start at 7 p.m. with special music and guest singers, invited by Pastor Ora Hisle.
The Indiana Wesleyan Methodist Conference leased a building in Montpelier Indiana to establish a new Wesleyan work. Rev Rex Krieg former Carthage pastor will lead the new church with his wife and three children residing in Warren Indiana.
Mrs. Chloa Ewing of the Ripley Homemakers and Mrs. Eunice Ewing of the Mixers Home Ec Club attended a Home Economics County Council meeting at the Rushville courthouse on Monday.
Five daughters and one granddaughter reunited with their mother Minnie Conley in Chicago. The group included Mrs Paul Gray of Carthage Mrs Joe Franciere of Chicago Mrs Raymond Munger of Warrenville Illinois and Mrs John M Collins with her daughter Mrs Helen Pickett of Azle Texas. They shared a reunion on Thursday and Friday.
Mrs Dora Watson aged 81 died Wednesday morning at Greensboro. Her son Walter Watson of Knightstown survives. She had lived one year at the home of Mrs Myra Mann.
Rush Lodge No. 580 F and A M will hold a stated meeting at the Lodge Hall on November 6 1957 at 7 30 p m. Secretary Lee Patton directs attendance.
Ed Ruby of Carthage R R will depart Chicago by train at 5 45 p m this Friday for an extended visit with his son and family in Fullerton California. His daughter Mrs Robert Walker and Mr Walker along with Mr and Mrs Herschel Hardin of Greenfield will accompany him to Chicago.
The lower six grades staged a Halloween judging in the school gym with prizes for prettiest most original and ugliest from each class. Judges included Mrs Cox Mrs Newgent Mrs Smith Miss Alexander and Miss Carfield naming winners across 1st to 6th grades. Plans for the Rush County Dairy Herd Improvement Association tour were announced with stops at farms near Manilla Knightstown and another site on Friday November 15 led by Purdue dairy specialist Norbert Moeller.
Ralph Henderson has sold his appliance store stock but will continue electrical contracting. Mrs. Gouldie Kyser entertained Rev. and Mrs. Everett Chapman of Paoli to dinner Sunday evening. On Chapman's return from Dayton Ohio they were dinner guests Wednesday of Mrs. Kyser, Sharlee Kyser and Miss Hattie Innis. Mr. and Mrs. Roy Stanley and daughter Reta visited Mr. and Mrs. Frank Stover at Markleville Saturday. Mrs. Hazel Chonan of Noblesville was an overnight guest of Mr. and Mrs. Guy Ewing last Wednesday night. Linda Ewing was an overnight guest Saturday night.
The CHS prep notes outline a 1957 58 season with 17 varsity players and possible cuts. Freshman players may be used as subs though they may be ineligible for tourney action. Games start at 6 45 or 7 00 p m with no advance ticket sales and seats on a first come basis.
An editorial urges Carthage fans to back the Raiders as a new season begins November 1, 1957 at New Salem. It laments past excuses and poor support, praises Coach Philip Sprague and principal Charles Morris, and calls for unified effort to win a sectional title and lift school pride.
Rushville’s Robert Spuller wins state 4H Citizenship and earns a Chicago review for national selection. Don White Carthage earns state Entomology Achievement with Chicago judging. Milroy’s Mary Jane Meek wins state Leadership and travels to Chicago for the National 4H Club Congress. all are Rush County youths with long records in dairy beef gardening and leadership.
Carthage Blue Raiders lead off the season with a home opener at New Salem facing Noble Township veterans. New coach Philip Sprague comes with a 22 win season at Spartanburg and a 1956-57 sectional push.
Mary Jane has excelled in leadership within the 4H junior leader organization in Rush County. She is active in multiple groups and currently attends Indiana State Teachers College.
Mr and Mrs Harry Elder of Carthage visited Mr and Mrs William Lockridge and their son in Muncie for Saturday dinner. Mrs Elder and Mrs Lockridge and their son later spent Saturday afternoon with Mrs Lucy Smith in Middletown.
Mrs Lewis Lafuse and her children were guests of Mrs W F Selm in Connersville last Thursday and Friday, enjoying the visit and hospitality.
John Jessup of Indianapolis and his son Johnnie, joined by Miss Pat Hosic and Miss Mary Etta Cinch of Dekalb Illinois, were Saturday dinner guests of Mr and Mrs Henry Jessup.
