Conservancy District Sought in Henry and Rush Counties
About 1500 county owners signed petitions presented to Henry Circuit Court seeking formation of a Big Blue River Conservancy District. If approved the district would accept federal funds, levy a property tax, and finance flood and erosion control as well as recreation and water supply projects via dams and dredging. Arno Wells, 28, of Russell Springs Kentucky, was arrested Saturday in Carthage and charged with speeding and operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated. In J.P. court in Rushville he was fined 61.50, remanded for non payment, and received a three month license suspension.

Carthage Man Arrested on Child Beating Charge
Oscar Dyer, 38, was arrested Sunday and jailed in the county facility on a child beating charge. Sheriff Bert George said the four year old boy was beaten possibly with a rope after allegedly disobedient behavior and staying out of the home.

The Business Men's Bowling League at Darth-Knight Lanes held its May 15 1964 banquet at the Durbin Hotel. Inter-State Studio won first place with eight teams sharing $779 prize money. Trophies went to O'Dell Pitts Noah Brooks Frank Hampton Pat Patterson and Dick Patterson. High awards went to Homer Hensler for High Average Ray Bosse for High Series and Howard Windsor for High Single. Autrey Lunsford provided two five dollar bowling certificates. Ray Bosse and Lee Taylor drew lucky numbers as officers were chosen for next season with Homer Hensler president O'Dell Pitts vice president Albert Ray secretary-treasurer.

Residents from Bush county entered 125 steers in the sixth annual Hoosier Beef Show to be held June 10 through 22 at the Indianapolis Stockyards and Hygrade's Indianapolis plant. Seventy exhibitors, including Golden Dawn Farms and R. R. 2 Carthage, are among participants. The event features a unique schedule with photography on arrival, a June 11 sale, on foot judging June 12 led by Kenneth Ramsay, and a June 18 slaughter at Hygrade's plant followed by carcass judging by a panel including L. E. Kunkle and O. M. Stone. The show is organized by the Indiana Beef Breeders Association, Purdue University, Hygrade, and the Indianapolis Stockyards.

Three Carthage men Vernon Norfleet 38 Cecil Dewees 57 died when their car crashed into a semitrailer at the Mays Carthage road intersection near State Road 3 Saturday afternoon. Harold Hoke 43 survived as driver of the semi.
