The high school orchestra met for practice at the school building on Wednesday evening.
Evening performance in the sitting room of Professor Dolittle's apartment features a mix of acts including vocal solos trumpet and trombone numbers, skits and monologues. Cast includes Julia Carroll Tweedy Carole Sims Phyllis Hull Lettuce Barbara Zimmerman Gloria Lukins Magee Bugs Porter Hinshaw Rabbbit John Allen Ruby Breeze Marlene Graff Anita Moore and others with a full production staff and One-Act Play Pantomime to Music.
Mr. and Mrs. Frank Overman will move into the late Mrs. Mary O. Sattler home on North Main Street. Mr. and Mrs. Ed Bly and their son take the Overman property on North East Street. Rev. and Mrs. Charles S. Winslow and Miss Susie Bentley move into the Bly and son’s former residence on South Main Street. Mrs. Katherine Williamson and her two sons relocate from near Shirley to the Narcissa Gates property on North Main Street. Williamson is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Sam Gold living west of Carthage.
TL Eleanor Rose Howard, daughter of Mrs Randolph Reames, is quite ill with the measles. Miss Arletta Small has been ill the past week. Mrs Otto Wyant in Walnut Ridge is ill at home. Mrs Ernest Wagoner remains unimproved. Grant Henley is improving nicely and able to walk to town. C G Hill continues to improve slowly and sat up on Thursday. Mrs Ross Parish remains ill at her home.
Van E. Lewark, a retired school teacher, died Sunday after several weeks of illness. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at Wyatt Memorial Mortuary in Rushville, attended by Mr and Mrs Ora Siler and Mr and Mrs Russell Siler and by Mr Harold Ruby and son John Allen who visited Monday evening.
Mrs. Robert Lytle of Alexandria, granddaughter of Mr and Mrs Lilburn White, underwent major surgery at St John hospital in Anderson last week and is reported to be recovering well. Mrs Margaret Rohn Perry of Alexandria is very ill at St John hospital in Anderson. she is a former Carthage resident.
Harry W Overman of Wheaton Illinois died at home Tuesday night after months of illness. Cause of death complications. Funeral services set for Thursday in Wheaton with burial at Crown Hill Cemetery Indianapolis at 1 30 PM. Attending the Indianapolis service will be Mrs James Ball Rushville Mrs Frank Overman Mrs Jesse Henley and Mrs Stuart McKnight.
Practically all commerce will halt in Carthage on Tuesday May 30 for Memorial Day. Groceries close all day while the post office opens until 9:00 am and closes until 5:30 pm. Filling stations may close part of the day. some business places reopen Wednesday May 31.
Wallace Roberts age 20 son of Mr and Mrs Martin Roberts of Blue River township is in City Hospital Indianapolis for injuries from a motorcycle mishap Friday morning. He is believed to have broken ribs and a possible collarbone fracture. He works at the Curtiss Wright factory in Indianapolis.
Revival services are in progress at the Carthage Wesleyan church with Rev. Vivian Stanley and Miss Mary Addison as workers. Services each evening at 8:00. Children's services on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday at 10:00 a.m.
Mr and Mrs Fred Flick traveled to Indianapolis to witness the Meth odist Hospital School of Nursing commencement. Their daughter Louise Flick graduated. The couple attended a reception and later a theater party hosted by Mr Flick with friends.
The Tweedy Memorial Community Center fund stands at about 3500 dollars though 5000 dollars are needed to finish the project. A donor list shows various contributions from individuals and couples totaling the shortfall. The Rev A L Taylor of Evansville spoke at East Street Christian church last Sunday with a noon dinner and subsequent official board meeting.
