The Carthage Community Center board met Tuesday evening with Fred Parish presiding. The secretary reported, and members noted completion of building rewiring, decorating, and new draperies. New double doors were installed on the south auditorium and an outside south entrance door to the kitchen. A motion to redecorate the basement was made and seconded, with further plans to come at the next meeting.

James A. Mann age 75 died Friday May 9 at his son's home in Needham Indiana after ten months of ill health and amputations. Carthage American Legion Post No 316 held its Wednesday meeting with Commander George B. McNabb in charge. The group voted to buy the Mill Street telephone building from General Telephone Co of Ft Wayne as the post’s future home. Officers were elected for the post including Commander James E. Webb and Adjutant William Alexander, to be installed at the June meeting. A 10th District meeting is set for May 17 in Hope Indiana for district officer elections. Cake and coffee closed the session with Mrs. Bruno Lupato donating the cake.

Carthage Man Slashes at Wife Held on Public Intoxication
Orville Adams 48 of West Log Street is jailed in Rushville on public intoxication and disorderly conduct charges after an alleged knife attack on his wife Minnie Adams at their Carthage home. She was cut on the throat by the assailant but defended herself. she was treated in Knightstown. Adams pleaded guilty to the charges and was fined five dollars plus costs totaling thirty eight dollars, then jailed for non payment.

Clarence Oldham Dies Suddenly at 67 in Mays Community
Clarence Oldham 67, farmer in the Mays community for 35 years, died suddenly Friday at his home. He was born in Hancock County and was a World War I veteran. Survivors include his widow Esther, sister Ruby Stoten, brother Ralph Oldham, all of Mays, and seven nephews. Funeral services were held Monday at 2 p.m. at Butcher Funeral Home Istown and burial followed in Glen Cove Cemetery Knightstown.
