Mr and Mrs Howard Windsor welcomed a daughter weighing six pounds, born Monday May 11 at Rush Memorial hospital. Grandparents are Mrs Maude Porter of Carthage. The news item also lists multiple social notices about fishing trips visits and university events.
The Junior Young People gathered at the Christian Church on May 6 at 5 30. Twenty five boys and about seventeen girls attended plus many guests. After games they held a baseball match with boys defeating girls before returning to the church at 8 30.
Mr. and Mrs. James R. Behr, totaling 67 years of teaching, retire from Lagro school faculty in Lagro Indiana. Mr Behr once served as principal in Carthage and the couple has lived in Lagro for 16 years where Mrs Behr taught the fourth grade.
Real estate transactions in Rush County last month totaled about 230000 with farm sales exceeding half the total. April's figure rose from a year ago by 33000 but fell short of March's 278000. Farm sales were 126000, Rushville City property about 55000 and small town suburban sales around 49000.
Lake Logan entered Rush Memorial Hospital May 1 for a check up and observation.
Mr and Mrs Myron Hyatt of Huntington announce the birth of a daughter Cynthia Jo on May 7 in Huntington. She is the granddaughter of Mr and Mrs Joseph Alexander of Carthage.
M Y F members journeyed Monday night to Fairview Methodist Church in Fairland Indiana for a sub district meeting. Rev Joe Emerson of Connersville Methodist Church delivered the message while singing was led by two Fairview girls. Carthage failed to win the traveling cup as Westport Methodist took the prize. A list of attendees includes Kay Kline Ethel Kline Ronnie Weidner Jean nine Terhune Carolyn Miller Mary Jane Blankenship Sue Siler Gary Siler Jimmy Stevens Sue Mosier Judy Kennedy Deanna Carroll Carole Todd Richard Doughty Beth Roberts Rev C L Davis Charles Mosier and Mrs Russell Siler.
The Band Booster organization will meet next Tuesday at 7 30 p m at the School building to discuss activities and support for the band program.
Mr and Mrs Don Revolt of New Palestine are the parents of an 8lb 10 07 son born Monday May 11 at Greenfield Hospital, grandson of Mr and Mrs John Revolt of Carthage.
Miss Ruth White and family members returned home last Friday after a week in High Point North Carolina attending a Friends Missionary Conference with Mr and Mrs Fred B White Mrs Russell Nigh of Carthage and Mrs Harold Macy of Charlottesville.
A state committee chose Frank Clark as one of two Hoosier seniors to receive a Latin teaching scholarship. Clark selected Indiana University and will enroll after graduation this month. Martha Gespohl of Seymour also earned a scholarship to pursue Latin teaching training at a college or university of her choice.
More than 200 Carthage High School alumni will gather at the school gymnasium for the annual banquet and meeting. The 1959 class will join the group at the commencement exercises next Monday. All teachers and former teachers are invited for a gala evening.
Goldie Addison hosted the Friday Charlottesville Woman's Christian Temperance Union session. The group sang Some Glad Day and T Would Be True. Thelma Cooper led devotions with Proverbs 22 6 followed by Minnie Brown's prayer. Mamie Jessup spoke from Shadows Over America as Ethelda Stewart read department leaflets. Ida Jessup led closing prayer.
The Methodist Friendship Class will meet Tuesday evening May 19 at 8 p.m. at the church. Hostesses are Mae Edwards Mable Manche and Jennie Ter hune.
Following a luncheon at the Durbin Hotel on Wednesday, the afternoon bridge club and guests were entertained by Grace Gurley at Gertrude Bush’s home. Attending were Mary Tweedy Opal Moore Chloa Ewing Mae Winfield Mayme McCarty and Nelle Beher.
The Carthage Chapter of OES held a regular stated meeting on Wednesday at 8 p.m. Worthy Matron Leone Mosier presided. Obligation night was observed. Mothers were honored. Lena Newsom, oldest mother, and Lavada Wilson, youngest, received potted plants. Knightstown School quartet of 8th graders, with Sue Ann Land, performed four songs.
The Rush County Historical Society will meet Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Museum at 7th and Perkins Streets in Rushville. Mrs. Aletha Smith of Connerville will model a dress hat and purse made from old buttons and give a talk on buttons. Refreshments will be served.
The Adult Skating Club will skate Friday night at 7 30 p.m. at the Community Center.
A Delta Kappa Gamma Founders Day luncheon was hosted Saturday at the White Cottage north of Connersville. Alpha Beta Chapter led arrangements with Kappa Chapter Richmond planning the program. Speakers included Mrs. Ella Miller on The Educated Heart and Dr. Milton Craft on Comparative Education.
The Kappa Kappa Sigma sorority will meet on Tuesday May 19 at Agnes Hensler's home with Katherine Ellis as co host.
The Woman's Society of Christian Service met last Thursday morning at the Methodist Church dining room for a May breakfast. Hostesses were Lela Gold and Lillian Stanley. Faye Whitfield, president, called the meeting to order after breakfast. Leone Mosier, secretary, handled roll call and minutes. Lena Newsom led devotions and Lela Gold gave the lesson. Edna Kennedy distributed the new program year books. Twenty six ladies and six children attended.
Church attendance noted across Fletcher Methodist East St Christian Dromriing Carthage Friends Walnut Ridge Friends and Wesleyan Methodist. Mrs Elmina Parish spent Mother's Day with Mr and Mrs Russell Davis at New Castle. Other guests were Mr and Mrs Keith Davis and family of Boston Indiana.
Juries for the Rush Circuit May term were drawn by the commissioners. The term begins next Monday with Attorney Kenneth Earnest serving as pro tempore judge during Judge William F. Marshall's absence. Grand and Petit jurors listed include residents from Rushville, Carthage, Milroy, Arlington, and other area townships, with numerous R.R. designations and several addresses.
Mr and Mrs Carl Carson observed their son Roger s second birth day Sunday. Guests included Miss Gladys Addison of Kennard Mrs Joyce Rhoades and son Larry Mr and Mrs Carl Carson Sr and Mr and Mrs Russell Siler and children.
Mrs Agnes Hensler hosted the Carthage Garden Club at her country home for the regular monthly meeting. Ten members and two guests from Indianapolis attended. an auction raised 18.45 dollars.
Clifford Earl Matney aged five was killed Sunday when he ran from behind a parked car into Moscow Waldron road. Paul Glisson the county assessor was the driver. the incident occurred about 3 15 p.m. near Moscow. State Trooper Walter Love and Sheriff Robert May reported the body was thrown about 50 feet.

An argument over 72 dollars for 40 hours of work led Junior Gulley to stab Milford Grigson in the chest with a pocketknife in an alley near the Black Bear Tavern. Grigson is in fair condition at Rush Memorial Hospital while Gulley is jailed on public intoxication charges awaiting further sheriff and town marshal investigation. The incident occurred at 7 05 p.m. as the men left Grigson’s car and fought east of the tavern.
Mary Draper of the American Legion Auxiliary leads Poppy Day observance on May 22 and 23 to honor war dead. Memorial poppies crafted by disabled veterans will be worn. The text lists World War I and II battle deaths and illness totals plus Korean War losses and wounded numbers.
The Carthage American Legion Post met at the Community Center to elect officers. Commander Bill Alexander, Vice Commander Wayne Draper, Finance Officer Gene Silver, Adjutant Gary Stewart, Chaplain Eugene R Gardner, and Sgt. of Arms Charles Fairchild were chosen. Social committee members Ross Tweedy and Eugene R Gardner provided refreshments.
The Carthage Lions Club held its monthly dinner with seventeen members and one guest. Elected officers include President Lewis Lafuse Secretary William Skinner Treasurer Harold Dixon 1st Vice President Leonard Jackson 2nd Vice President Frank Hampton 3rd Vice President Thomas Shields Lion Tamer Guy Ewing Tail Twister Fred Magee Chaplain Robert Shockney. Two year directors named Jack Tweedy and Hubert Hunt. guest speaker Gerald Carmony of Mann spoke.
The Christian Women Fellowship held its May meeting last Thursday at the church with Grace Gurley Golda Leisure Elmina Parish and Mary E Bush. President Maude Shutt and secretary Joanna Gibson led. Mrs Gibson gave devotions on Mother's Day and Carolyn Kendall taught a lesson on the Middle East and South America. May 17 19 was set for the C W F State Convention in Vincennes Indiana. Refreshments were served to members.
