Coach and Mrs Richard Trubey are the parents of a daughter born Thursday May 12 at Rush Memorial Hospital. Also listed is a marriage licence for Loyd T Mofield 18 R R 1 Carthage and Linda Beeman 17 R R 1 Gaston Indiana.
Rev William Barnes of the Christian Theological Seminary Indianapolis will speak at East St Christian Church Sunday morning. He will present a Certificate of Partnership recognizing Rev Paul C Button for assisting the congregation while he trains at the seminary. Harold A Ruby, Chairman of the official board, will receive it.
Walnut Ridge Friends Church held a 6:30 p m pitch in supper at the Community Center to honor Pastor Gerald Collier and his family as they prepare to move to St Louis Missouri. Gene Richmond led devotions and guests sang together before games and a gift presentation of a religious picture.
The Christian Church schedules Vacation Bible School from June 6 to 17, running daily from 9 to 11 30 a m. for youth. For more information or transportation contact 565 3845.
Mrs. Joseph Porter joined her son Kit for Butler University's annual Spring Sing during Mother's Day weekend as Phi Delta Theta members hosted their mothers.
The Rush County Junior Leaders met May 2 and elected boys and girls projects heads and secretaries for the Junior Fair Board. Carole Norris and Mary Jane Steward will supervise girls projects. Sarah Daubenspeck and Ann Liggett will be assistant secretaries. For the boys, Steve Hahn is superintendent with Randie McDaniel as assistant, John Meek as secretary and Steve Abernathy as assistant secretary. John Worth spoke on the Indiana Sesquicentennial urging 4-H member participation.
Miss Cindy Brooks of Ball State University was a weekend guest of her parents Mr and Mrs Noah Brooks. Mrs Charlotte Dalrymple of Knightstown was also a Mother's Day guest.
John William Rasor of Saybrook Illinois dies at 3 15 am on Thursday May 12 after six years of failing health He lived with his daughter and son in law Mrs Joseph Porter in Carthage since March 1 1965 Born March 21 1886 in Leroy he married Mary Ellen Conrad on February 23 1910 Survived by wife five daughters two sons twelve grandchildren one half sister and one half brother Infant sons preceded him in death Funeral services 2 30 pm Saturday Lamb Funeral Home Gibson City with Roger L Boyd officiating Burial Gibson City Cemetery
Fred Smith aged 59 of 307 E Main St Spiceland Indiana died Wednesday morning after a year and a half illness at Hagerstown Nursing Home. He was born in Russell County Kentucky a machinist by trade formerly of Carthage a member of Knightstown Church of God. Survived by wife Lois six daughters Mary Marcia Mildred Brenda Edith Peggy eight sons Kenneth James Royce Carl Ronnie Robert David Donald three sisters two brothers and fifteen grandchildren. Services Friday May 13 at 2 p.m. at Butler Funeral Home Knightstown with Rev Jesse Escue officiating. Burial at Glencove Cemetery.
Ora W Herkless 91 died April 29 in a Chattanooga hospital after a period of ill health. A civil engineer and former Indiana football star, he studied at Indiana University and Purdue University and lived in Chattanooga since 1928. He is survived by wife Jennie, daughter Loren Hunt, brother Earl, sister Carrie Call and several grandchildren. Funeral services were at West Chapel Chattanooga Funeral Home with burial in Greenwood Cemetery.
Mrs. Della Rumple hosts visitors including Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Brown and children of Mooreland and Russell Rumple of Monticello. Mr. and Mrs. James W. Mosier greet Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Mosier and a daughter as Mother's Day guests. Mrs. Forrest Steward of Knightstown also visits.
Carthage Lions Club hosted a family night featuring the 500 Mile Race film last Monday. The annual event, in its 14th year, included a brief business meeting, new member certificates for Ercel Bever Jr, Richard Trubey, James Weber, and Gary McClurg, and a vote to join the local Park Project with purchase of 6 picnic tables and 4 ovens for the park site.
Container Corporation installs a large whistle for emergencies in cooperation with Civil Defense. It will blow at 6 a.m. 12 noon 1 p.m. and 6 p.m. starting May 16 1966 upon authorized emergency requests. Contact the power plant at 65 2515.
Mr and Mrs Thomas Bush spent the week visiting Denes Michigan and Toronto Canada traveling sites and enjoying the trip.
Lenore Thompson 70 of Rushville and former Carthage resident died Monday in Rushville Nursing Home. Born July 28 1895 in Montgomery City she was daughter of John Wesley Loveless and Olive Bratton. Survived by husband A B Thompson and stepson Kenneth. four sisters and two stepgrandchildren. Burial in Montgomery City at Schlanker Funeral Home.
Mrs. Oliver Earnest received word of the death of her nephew Arthur Unger of Alexandria Indiana who died in Community Hospital Anderson. Attending the funeral Monday were Mrs. Earnest and relatives Mrs. William Nelson Arlington Route 1 and Mrs. Flo Hickman Knightstown at Kyle Funeral Home in Alexandria.
The Carthage Brotherhood and Sisterhood will meet Monday May 16 at 7 30 p m at the Community Center.
Mr and Mrs Russell Roland were business visitors in Indiana polis on Monday, meeting local merchants and discussing potential investments. The visit highlighted regional commerce, with no incidents reported and the couple staying briefly in the city.
Seniors and juniors list student government positions with presidents secretaries treasurers and class queens. The 1966-67 varsity cheerleader and B-team elections are reported with alternates named and junior high tryouts set. Kit Carries On, a 1965 Carthage high school graduate and Butler University freshman, competes on the Freshman Track Team. He holds the Rush County record in high hurdles and runs the 440 yard intermediate hurdles. He won first place in Butler’s first meet against Wabash College and again last week against Depauw University.
Mrs Elmer Mae French entertained the Raleigh Aid Society at her Carthage home with co host Mrs Edw Tellas presiding. Sixteen members and four guests attended an interesting program. Guests included Mrs Lowell French Mrs Joanna Gibson Mrs Even Tiller and Mrs Ronnie Sullivan all of Carthage. Delicious refreshments followed.
Mr. and Mrs. Lowell Brown of Carthage were honored at a Sunday 7 p.m. party hosted by friends at the Whitfields home for their 25th wedding anniversary. The couple married May 10, 1941, and have two children, Linda and Jerry.
American Legion Post will donate land at Walnut and Log Streets to Carthage for a new park. At last Friday’s meeting the plan was accepted and fundraising begun. A north and east fence will be erected soon, with Liong Club funding six picnic tables and four ovens to jumpstart the project.
Mrs Virginia Wells and Mrs Ethel Collins visited Mother's Day with Mr and Mrs Charles Hoover. Sunday visitors of Mrs Ruth Cook were Mr and Mrs John Wilson of Greenfield.

The Carthage Radio and Appliance Shop and Rush County R.E.M.C. hosted their annual Cooking School at the Community Center Tuesday night with music by the Hoffman family. Raymond Forkner led the program, Mrs Phyllis Joyce taught food preservation, and Hubert Hunt awarded about 75 dollars in prizes. Gifts included an electric clock a steam iron a hair dryer a toaster a transistor radio and more with students and attendees named among the recipients.
Miss Cindy Brooks received a surprise personal shower from Ball State University friends on Saturday May 7 at 2 p.m. in Little Lounge Brady Hall. Hostess Miss Mary Ayers of Carmel is Brooks' roommate. other guests included Mrs. Noah Brooks Mrs. James Dalrymple Connie Dalrymple and Mrs. Max Gasser.
Mr and Mrs William Ross and their sons visited Mrs and Mrs Edward P Six and family in Rushville on Sunday. Also visiting were Mrs Kenneth Rhodes and the Hartzlers from Indianapolis and Rushville, including Ethel John and Ray Hartzler and their families.
The Mixed League at Darth Knight Lanes held a winter season banquet at Hagerstown Smorgasbord with 24 members and 2 guests. Dead Eyes won the large first place trophy. multiple players received special and double-made trophies for high averages, games, series and most improved bowler. Officers Bob Jackson and Laura Scott will serve through summer. Lunsford showed season films as attendees praised the event.
The Woman's Bowling League of Darth Knight Lanes held a Smorgasbord dinner and awards night May 5 in Hagerstown. Officers elected for 1966 67 were President Mrs Hugh Trowbridge Vice President Mrs Noah Brooks Secretary Treasurer Mrs Robert Messick and Sergeant at Arms Hellen Sorrell. Awards went to Ruby's Market J E Carth Knight Bowl First National Bank Flory's Gift Shop Willis Implement Co Hochstedler Grains P N Hirsch & Co, with Norma Edwards high average 145 Marolyn Lunsford high series 534 Arminta Ruby high game 205 and Shirley Jackson trophy for most improved player.
