Seaman First Class John Roger Cooper, former Greenfield resident and Carthage High School graduate, was wounded in the European theater. He served on a merchant ship with the armed guard, sailed from Philadelphia March 20, injured April 16, and is hospitalized overseas. He enlisted October 4, 1943 through the Hancock County selective service board. he and wife Leone Van Duyn Cooper have twins Jerry and Sandra.

Ripley township 4 H clubs held a joint meeting in Kid's Kanteen on May 9 with 48 boys and 25 girls plus 4 guests. Talks on the Junior Leaders meeting and pins were given as Rotary style pledges were recited.
