Sorority Luncheon Marks Alpha Epsilon Chapter Installation

Mrs. Ann Stager and Mrs. Robert White attended a Sunday luncheon at the YWCA in Anderson to install the Alpha Epsilon Chapter of Kappa Kappa Sigma by Grand Council. About one hundred members from several chapters attended. Mrs. Donald Sparks, formerly of Carthage, was named charter member of the new Alpha Epsilon Chapter.

A congregational dinner for members and families is set for Sunday evening May 6 at 6 30 p m at the Methodist Church. A program is planned and guests are asked to bring well filled baskets of food and table service.

OES Meeting and Democratic Assembly Held in Carthage

The Carthage Order of Eastern Star holds a regular meeting on Wednesday May 9 with officers required to attend in formal dress and a memorial and Mother's Day service. A Democratic rally at the Community Center featured John E. Mitchell of Flat Rock Indiana seeking the 10th District Congress seat among several local candidates.

Better Business Association Meet In Carthage

Ten members attended the Better Business Association of Carthage meeting Tuesday noon at Geise Restaurant. President Robert McKain led the session with reports from secretary and treasurer Mrs. McKain. Dues were announced as due and various old and new business topics were discussed.

Seaman Whitfield Watches Kennedy Visit Norfolk

William D. Whitfield, USN seaman from Carthage Indiana, aboard USS Rushmore, observed President Kennedy during a two day Atlantic Fleet visit in Norfolk Virginia on April 13 and 14. The sortie preceded a three week joint Navy Marine maneuver with 40 000 sailors and Marines on 83 ships including Vieques Puerto Rico. The president then observed air operations aboard USS Enterprise and USS Forrestal and participated in a review of the Second Fleet at Onslow Beach North Carolina.

Safety group dinner honors long accident-free records

Container Corporation of America entertained the Safety Group at the local paper mill Wednesday night at the Durbin Hotel in Rushville. About 40 men attended the meeting where several on one shift received pins and steel rules for maintaining five years with no accidents and others earned steel rules for a year of no accidents mill-wide.

No School Merger Vote Planned in Henry County

Henry County school reorganization committee decided Tuesday night there will be no vote in the May 8 primary on reorganizing the county schools. The panel cited insufficient time to present the case to voters before the election. a vote is expected in the fall election.

Winters 49 of Connersville who died at Fayette Memorial Hospital after long illness Born October 25 1912 in Brownsville Indiana he was an accountant and WWII veteran A Brownsville Methodist Church member he is survived by wife Louise mother Elsie Winters children Robert Charlene John and five grandchildren Funeral services were held at Brownsville Methodist Church with Rev. Fashion Show at Tweedy Memorial Center

Mrs. O Dessa H Bieschke home economics instructor presents about one hundred garments by her students in a fashion show on Thursday May 10 at 7 30 p m at the Tweedy Memorial Center. The 9th grade Home Ec displays a basic dress five ways and a variety of outfits while 7th graders show cotton spring dresses. Home Ec II features juniors and seniors with cottons silks and wools. Festival Committee Appointed for Center Furnace and Fall Fair

The Tweedy Memorial Center directors met Tuesday with seven members present. Fred Parish presided as a committee was formed to oversee a new furnace project, including interviews and bids. A 1962 Fall Festival committee was named with Bill Alexander, Lloyd Manuel and James Webb. festival dates set for September 27 28 and 29. A rides contract was signed on May 2.

Willard Brandt Dies Suddenly At 65

Willard August Brandt 65 of R R 1 Carthage died Tuesday night at Henry County Hospital from a heart attack. Survived by wife Doris three daughters Mrs William H Finney Mrs Robert B Patterson Marsha Lynn Brant two sons Richard Alan and Robert Henry Brandt five grandchildren four sisters and one brother. Services set for Friday May 4 at 1 30 pm at Moore and Kirk Northeast Chapel Indianapolis.

McNabbs Win Antique Car Race at Indianapolis Raceway Park

Dr Richard McNabb drove his 1924 Chrysler to victory in a five lap antique car race on the 58 mile track at Indianapolis Raceway Park on Sunday April 29. Starting last, he passed all rivals on the final turn of the last lap with his brother Dr George McNabb as mechanic. The pair received a gold trophy and plaque as prize in front of about 8 000 fans.

The Carthage Fire Department urges filling stations to enforce State Fire Marshal rules on home use gasoline containers. Only sound metal containers with tight closures and proper spouts may be used for home fueling. glass jugs are not acceptable due to heat and breakage risks. Patrons should cooperate with the rule.

Primary Election slated for May in Rush County

The regular primary sets May 8 to select party candidates for the November 1962 general election. A school reorganization measure is on the ballot alongside candidate races for the Tenth Congressional District and Rush Henry counties.
