A group of friends gathered Tuesday evening at Mrs. Mary Hubbard’s home for a pitch in dinner celebrating the birthday anniversary of the guest of honor. Attendees included Mr. and Mrs. Roy Newby, Mr. and Mrs. D. P. Dunn, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Chonan, W. R. Zion, Mrs. Avery Rawls, Mrs. Grace Porter, Mrs. Ella Moore, and Misses Winora Newsom Pearle Coffin and Ruth Parker.
Mrs. Bayard Baker hosted a pitch-in dinner on Wednesday with Pendleton attendees Mesdames Charles Schooley Irvin Huntzinger James Moore Joe Stoner Mollie Brown Howard Walker Ed Wildridge Henry Ford and Alvin Williamson.
A library table display highlights Adams early life and a new volume on Hull House with reflections on the woman’s movement, peace during war, postwar contrasts, and postwar education. Christian Herald remains regular, with Time and many magazines appearing occasionally.
A Sunday school class hosted a pre-nuptial gathering at Mabel Helps home on Monday evening. Miss Lucile Pitts and Mr Maurice were the honored couple with yellow and green decorations and American Beauty rose favors. Miss Pitts received a silver bread tray as a gift. Attending were Mr and Mrs A J etc.
A series of farm educational meetings conducted by the Indiana Farm Bureau Cooperative Association concluded in each county. Speakers included H Hull, Otto Voyles, John Sims, and M J Briggs. Attendance ranged from seventy five to five hundred with banquets served before sessions.
The notice states all deputy registration officers have returned supplies to the county clerk. Residents who have not registered may register with the township assessor or county clerk. Registration must be completed on or before April 8 to vote in the May 8, 1934 primary.
Miss O Mari DeSchipper a Butler University student will return home Friday for a week’s vacation. The short visit reflects a common early semester break pattern among students.
The Good Friday observance at multiple churches will run Friday from 1:00 to 3:00 with hymns prayers scripture readings and talks by Rev Schoolfield Omar Hufford Nathan Pickett Bruce Jordan Geo Holwager and Rev Glover. Music will include quartette and duets and a final hymn and benediction. Citywide business closing is planned but attendees may join part or all of the service.
Roy Newby announces his Republican bid for township trustee in Carthage. A longtime resident, he lived here the first 19 years, led Carthage Board and Paper Co. as superintendent 1911 to 1915, and returned in 1932 hoping to spend his remaining years in the town. He pledges an uptown office for public access.
March brought a mix of wintry weather with sleet and ice. Tuesday stood out as a day of beauty with trees and shrubs coated in crystal like magic. No major damage reported to trees or poles locally, though the northern part of the state suffered extensive telephone service disruption from sleet and ice.
Mrs. Howard E. Henley hosted a Friday shower from 3 to 5 by the Friendly Circle and Young Quakers class of the Friends church for Lucille Pitts who will soon wed Maurice Bell. Forty attended as Mrs. A. J. Carr led the program with contests and a musical segment by Mrs. W. L. Tetrick and others. Refreshments of ice cream cake mints and coffee were served and Miss Pitts received several gifts.
Mrs. Jesse Patton and Miss Ruth Barber of Milroy were dinner guests of Mrs. Minnie Adkins.
The annual Easter sunrise prayer meet at East St Christian Church begins 6:30 AM with a threefold focus for art hope and love from First Corinthians 13. Talks by Jasper Nagh Mrs Cecil Pike and Claude Sipe precede prayers and music by Sunshine quartette and the youth group. An Easter breakfast follows in the basement with attendees asked to bring eggs and bacon. The event is a community invitation to all faith groups.
A large crowd heard Rev. Frank J. Niles and the Royal Colored Quartet. Lenten Thursday service begins 7:00 PM with choir at 7:45. Union Good Friday service at 2:00 PM. Easter Sunday services start 9:30 AM with Sunday school and an Easter program. Easter Lenten boxes will be presented. Morning worship 10:35 with Rev. N. Schoolfield on The Easter Garden Message. Epworth League meets 3:00 PM. Carmony Trio to sing and a candlelight communion pageant. Ladies Aid meets April 5 hosted by Mrs. Nelson and others.
The Friends Church promotes a Tuesday 7 15 prayer and Bible study on Habakkuk. An Easter Praise service is set for next Sunday at 10 30 with infant presentations. Evening worship features the Religious Drama Simon the Leper by the Young Quakers class.
The notice lists church activities including a Bible school starting at 9 30 morning worship and sermon at 10 30 evangelistic service at 7 00 p m prayer and praise on Tuesday at 7 00 p m and a welcome test.
