A public meeting will be held March 21 at 7 p.m. at the Carthage Community Center to discuss the proposed Rush County Planning and Zoning. Indiana Farm Bureau affairs director Bill Hadley will attend and show films. Refreshments will be served.
Mr and Mrs Robert Bentley of Greenfield R R are parents to an 8 lb 10% oz boy named Brian born March 14 Mrs Bentley formerly Kay Sims daughter of the late Mr and Mrs Fred Sims A Boy Scout troop meeting for Carthage is set for Sunday March 20 at 3 pm in the Fletcher Methodist Church annex William Banta district executive of Whitewater Valley Council Connersville will attend with films and information The Indiana Young Friends Choir sang at First Friends Church Richmond with Charlottesville Friends Church members Vivian Powers Diana Jenkins and Phil Campbell in attendance escorted by Mr and Mrs Gene Silvers and children of Carthage
Mr. Donald Ruby and his daughter Mrs. Max Ellis of Knightstown came home last week from Florida where the Rubys left January 4 for a winter vacation. Mrs. Ellis stayed two weeks in Florida, and Mrs. Donald Ruby flew home earlier due to her mother Flora Hunt’s illness.
Mr. and Mrs. Phil Parish moved over the weekend back to the former Carl Hoyle farm home, R. 2, now owned by Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Pearson. They started housekeeping at the same residence.
Funeral services for 53 year old Robert Elmore were held Friday at Sells and Rowe Funeral Home in Anderson. Immediate survivors include two sons Charles Elmore of Carthage and Joseph Elmore of Willow Branch, two daughters Mrs Paul Keller of Columbus and Miss Julie Elmore of Texas, four sisters and five grandchildren.
Mr D W McNabb of Ft Wayne returned to Indianapolis by plane last Thursday night from a three months tour of Australia Islands and Hawaii. He spent the night with his brother and wife Dr and Mrs George B McNabb and Mrs Alice McNabb and children. Mrs D W McNabb of Ft Wayne joined her husband here for the week.
Mrs. Lloyd Manuel and her sons Tom and Phil attended the Roger Miller show at Clowes Hall in Indianapolis on a Tuesday night.
Airman 2nd Class James Gorman, son of Mr and Mrs Thomas Gorman of Carthage, left Monday for 18 months service duty in the Azores following a four day furlough with his wife, parents, and other relatives. Gorman is in his fourth year of military service.
Mr and Mrs Hubert Hunt and Mr and Mrs Ralph McClarnon attended the Butler ballet at Clowes Hall Friday night. Pam Hunt danced with the ensemble as several local residents accompanied by James Ellis Eugene Gardner and son J B were seen at the performance.
The Carthage Brotherhood-Sisterhood will hold its regular meeting Monday at 7 30 p m at the Community Center.
The Carthage Lions Club held a Monday evening dinner meeting in the Community Center basement. Members gathered for fellowship and club business in a small, routine gathering.
Betty Brooks and Madelyn Brown captured co titles in Rushville events. The Rushville Women’s Bowling Association City Team Tournament was at Rushville Bowl on Feb 13 with doubles and singles at Darth Knight Bowl on Feb 20 and 27. Standings show team, doubles, and singles results with numerous finalists and high scores across handicap and actual formats.
Postmaster announces supplemental Medicare application blanks available at Carthage Post Office as Social Security Administration targets 3.1 million seniors before the March 31 deadline. President Johnson proclaims National Medicare Enrollment Month and urges enrollment nationwide.
Johnnie E. Wesley, 24, pleaded guilty to drunken driving, no operator's license, and reckless driving in Rushville Justice Court. He was fined a total of 81.75 dollars, jailed briefly after a chase starting at Ninth and Main, and later jailed in the county facility. His vehicle weaving led to the stop north of Rushville on Road 3.
Airman Clifford A. Aker, son of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Y. Aker of Carthage Indiana, has been selected for training at Keesler Air Force Base Mississippi as an Air Force communications specialist. The 1964 Carthage High School graduate recently completed basic training at Lackland Air Force Base Texas.
Marine Private Robert E. Jackson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert A. Jackson of Carthage Indiana, completes eight weeks of intensified recruit training at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego. He learns marksmanship, bayonet, drill, and Marine history before four weeks of combat and four weeks of basic specialist training. His wife Carol resides in Knightstown.
San Antonio Texas Airman Michael A Buhler son of Mr and Mrs Charles W Buhler Jr Rushville Indiana has been selected for training at Lackland AFB Texas as an Air Force air policeman He is a 1964 graduate of Rushville High School and recently completed basic training at Lackland AFB He attended Ball State University in Muncie Indiana.
Camp Pendleton California March 4 Marine Corporal Virgil J Hendershott son of Mr and Mrs Virgil E Hendershott of Arlington Indiana completed a 12 day training and processing cycle with Staging Battalion at the Marine Corps Base The refresher training emphasized small unit tactics scouting patrolling and land navigation with day and night maneuvers to improve combat infantry skills.
The Indiana State Chamber of Commerce notes new 1966 districts increase multi seat voting for smaller counties as larger counties gain dominance. Nine largest counties hold over half the population with control of 52 House seats and 27 Senate seats. The group backs the Dirksen Amendment to empower less populous areas. Senator Everett Dirksen leads the congressional effort.
Giles W. Garrett, District Manager, says the Richmond Indiana Social Security office will extend hours in March. Regular hours are 8:30 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. Monday through Friday with Friday March 25 and March 28-31 extended to 9:00 p.m. Also Saturday hours on March 19 and 26 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. The Medicare deadline is March 31. The Twice-Four bridge club met last Thursday evening at Mrs. Ralph Mosier's home. Honors went to Mrs. Eugene Ann Gardner, Mrs. Delmer Sipes, and Mrs. Markes McClurg. Others present included Mrs. Forrest Beck, Mrs. Wilbur McCorkle, Mrs. Noah Brooks, and Mrs. Lind ley Taylor. Refreshments followed.
Mrs. Laura Sandefur spent a weekend with her sisters Violet and Irene Kline in Connersville. Cecil Pike and Edward Tellas attended the 50th wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Joel Simmons north of Shirley. Larry Apple and daughter Cheryl of Cincinnati were guests of Mr. and Mrs. Al Stapp and daughter.

The Carthage exhibit, sponsored by Martha Connerly and Lois Shields, will enter state competition. Larry Bash, son of Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Bash, received a $100 music scholarship at the Rush County Music Festival Friday evening. ECC tournaments set for 3 p.m. Thursday March 24 in our gym with no admission. Junior Class Play moved to Friday April 15 from April 1.
The menu lists daily meals for March 21 through March 25. Monday offers chicken rice soup, hamburger sandwich, potato salad, tossed salad, pineapple and milk. Tuesday features sauerkraut and hot dog, buttered potatoes, cornbread butter, apricots and iced graham.
Mrs. Elmer Flora Hunt remains about the same at Hancock Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Elmer Mank entered Rush Memorial Hospital the past weekend. Mrs. Russell Parish returned home Saturday from Community Hospital Indianapolis.
Stan Lynch and Robert Worth Pitts, both incumbents on the Ripley Township Advisory Board, have filed for re nomination, subject to the Republican Primary on May 3.
Mr and Mrs Robert McKain are again assessing in Carthage and Ripley Township. Assessment schedules are set by the State Board of Tax Commissioners regarding farm livestock and other commodities as circulated by County Assessor Glen Schroeder.
The Home Demonstration Program Planning Committee met at the Courthouse Sewing Room on March 9 to map 1967 lesson topics. Beverly Sprague led the session with aides Mrs. LeClerc Mrs. Worth Mrs. Kendall Mrs. Lines and Mrs. Parks assisting. seventeen people attended.
Mrs. Orville Porter of near Gings was a Sunday guest of her daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Howard Linville and son.
The fourth grading period honor roll at Carthage School lists seventh graders Jerry Dixon Terry McKain and Cathy Wright with straight A grades. Honorable Mention goes to Cathy Mummert Kay Spence and Patla Whitfield. Eighth graders Nancy Boulton Mark Carson Dale Copple and Melinda Lafuse make the list with Charles Lee and Debbie Magee receiving honorable mention.
In Rush County a Farm Bureau board favored area planning and zoning to guide growth with Rushville and nearby towns included. The writer urges Carthage residents to attend next Monday night’s Community Center meeting to hear pro and con on planning as a reservoir era influx is expected.

Mr. and Mrs. Glen Staten of Indianapolis. and Mrs. Ella Howard visiting. Afternoon visitors included Mr. and Mrs. Gene Strong Herm an of New Castle. Mr. and Mrs. Lyle Plank and children Kim and Doug near Knightstown. Mr. and Mrs. Tom Gorman and Deanna. Mrs. Donald Campbell. all of Carthage and A-20 and Mrs. James Gorman.
Mrs Forrest Beck entertained Monday afternoon with one table of bridge and prizes. Those receiving prizes were Mrs Wilbur McCorkle and Mrs Stella Humes. Mrs Gouldie Kyser formed the foursome. Refreshments were served.
Larry Nigh and parents Bob and Mary Nigh hosted a ham supper at 6 30 p m at the Community Center for Carthage varsity and B teams. Coaches Trubey Weber and yell leaders led games and entertainment.
A crowd including Coach Richard Trubey, Warren Nigh, Mike Joseph, John Terhune, Rick McNabb and many others attended the semi state basketball tournament at Butler Fieldhouse in Indianapolis. Also present were Butler University figures Joseph Porter and Kit Porter and Pat Watkins with Glenna, former Carthage High students now linked to Holton School.
Real estate transfers totaled 589 700 in February in the county office, up from 281 800 the year before. Farm property accounted for 420 200 of the total, led by a 103 200 farm sale and a 70 100 farm sale among six others 26 000 to 38 000. City and suburban property added 169 500. Local transfers include Gorman to the Muirs for 1 088 acres in Carthage and adjacent parcel. Hogle to Pearson for 70 acres in Township 15 Range 9.
Mr and Mrs Robert Walker will host the Fidelity Sunday School Class party at their home on Sunday evening March 20 at 8 p.m.
A county wide reception honors Congressman Roudebush at the Durbin Hotel Sunday from 3 to 5 p.m. GOP precinct committeemen county officers city council and candidates attend. Roudebush greets guests and speaks during the program sponsored by the Rush County Roudebush for Congress Committee chaired by C. W. Compton.
