New Castle residents visited relatives including Frank Morris and wife from Saturday to Monday. Clergy families from Carthage and nearby towns visited, with illness noted for C. P. Overman and Mrs Veatch’s mother. Nelson hardware opening and seasonal shopping revival described with social events and community dining.
John F Leisure visited relatives at Madison from Saturday to Tuesday. Mrs John F Leisure and Mr and Mrs Henry Jessup entertained at dinner Sunday with guests Jesse Reddick of Arlington Jeff D Leisure family Jesup family Noah Leisure and others. Miss Ethel Posey of near Rushville stayed with Mrs Jeff D Leisure last week. J D Leisure guests of Walter Addison Friday. A daughter was born Thursday March 7 to Mr and Mrs Jesse Newsom.
Isaac Bitner traveled from New Castle to accompany his niece Miss Mary Stevens to Madison to visit relatives. Dinner guests Sunday included Mr and Mrs Jesse Healey with Mr and Mrs Earl Herkless and children and Mr and Mrs Byron D Ball and daughter and Mr and Mrs Harry O Pitts and daughter, along with Byron W. Retherford.
An estate agent, absorbed in big deals, failed to notice a neighbor’s missing heifer for over two weeks. A nationwide check and a tip about last week’s estate ad led to locating the animal at John Leisure’s. Mrs Retherford recalled hints of seeing the heifer by the roadside days earlier.
C C Coates of Dayton visited John Tribey and wife. Willis Collins and family visited Mr and Mrs Cy Ramsey on Sunday. Mrs William Moore visited relatives at New Castle last week. Mrs David Addison visited her mother Mrs M Robb of Morristown on Tuesday. Ben Nelson works for W W Robbins. Mr and Mrs Charles W Smith and their little son were guests of Mr and Mrs Romey Moss on Friday and Saturday.
Mrs Henry Binford has la grippe while Cassius Gray and family visited Dan Swudenback and his wife Sunday. Charlottesville visitors Miss Jessie Pearson came to visit Charley Pearson and Henry Binford. Franklin E White and family visited William Sawyer and family. Miss Mattie Jones from Greenfield stayed with Miss Mabel Phelps. Ed Ruby and family visited Newhelps and family. John Butler and family visited Knightstown residents. The Misses Jessie White and Halsey Hastings visited Greenfield friends. Mr and Mrs Will Wilson of
Two boys in a buggy were spilled when a frightened horse ran to Main street after snowballs were thrown at it. Lee Retherford and John Bitter escaped injury. The horse was later caught by H. J. Catt. Damaged buggy shafts required repairs and the Retherford family were notified to pick up their children.
