Bayard Baker addressed the Masonic lodge in Frankton on Tuesday night. Mrs. Baker attended the event along with him, traveling from Pendleton.
The January term of Rush circuit court closed and the March term opens next Monday. Twelve grand jurors and twenty four petit jurors were drawn, with many names from Ripley and Anderson townships. Notable jurors include Arnold Perrigo Anderson and Floyd Reddick.
Community led all day Peace Conference at the Friends church in Carthage featured Bishop Paul Jones and economist Homer Morris. Speakers urged tariffs adjustment, reciprocal trade, access to raw materials, and a strong will to peace with participation from Indiana Yearly Meeting and Chicago literature volunteers. Attendance surpassed expectations with participants from over a dozen neighborhoods.
Mrs Anna J Sipe and many relatives attended the funeral services for Miss Margaret Jones in Rushville on Tuesday afternoon. The list includes Mr and Mrs Ralph Winslow Mr and Mrs Walter J Phelps Mrs Grace Phelps Harold Phelps Mrs Robert Bishop Mrs Ora Siler Mrs Ella Nelson and Mrs Ida Small.
Mrs Amanda Boren age 82 died at her home in Knightstown Monday evening. Funeral services were held at Willson Funeral Frome at 10 oclock Wednesday morning with burial in Glencove cemetery. She was aunt to Mrs Grace Phelps and Mrs Henry Jessup who attended the services.
Funeral services were held for Eunice White, 78, at Thompson Funeral Home with Rev. Murray S. Kenworthy and Rev. Homer Biddlecum officiating. She died Sunday night after illness from influenza and pneumonia. Burial followed at Riverside Cemetery near Carthage. Survivors include daughter Ruth, son Fred, a brother Amos Hill, four grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Nigh welcomed a daughter named Bonnie Jean born Monday morning at Henry County hospital in New Castle. Mr. and Mrs. Wallace Gardner reported a nine and a half pound boy named Hugh born Saturday at their home in Mays.
Carthage Service club will meet Monday night March 13 at 6 45 p m at East Street Christian church. Special speaker Blanchard Ketchem district game warden is the guest for the evening. Members are urged to attend.
Rush County Oratorical contest will be held in Carthage on March 21 with elimination contests at each school. Morton High School is the defending winner for five straight years. Local entrants for the Carthage school include Rosalie Humes and others. Medals and an American Legion plaque will be awarded. the winner’s name will be engraved on the Carthage Service Club trophy.
The Seniors host a food market at Hunt's grocery this Saturday offering cakes pies potato salad cottage cheese and chickens among other foods. Proceeds support their community effort with a call to "On to Washington."
The Rushville Lions defeated Arlington Wildcats 39 to 10 to clinch the sectional title. The team earlier beat Morton 38 to 22 and edged Milroy 24 to 20 in a hard fought tourney run. Carthage Blue Raiders reached the semi final but fell 27 to 20 to Arlington.
Mr and Mrs Don Lamphear and daughters Beth and Barbara depart on the S S Argentine for Sao Paulo Brazil on March 8. Mr Lamphear will be division superintendent of the tire and tube department at a new Goodyear manufacturing establishment there. Mrs Lamphear is the daughter of the late John C Clark of Indianapolis and the family often visited her sister Mattie Clark. Sao Paulo, an industrial city of 1 750 000, lies forty miles inland from the Atlantic at 2 500 feet.
The Rush County Conservation club will hold its regular session at Graham school in Rushville. A special program with music pictures and speaking is planned including photos of foreign countries South America and notable places in the United States. The event is open to all. March 13 at Graham Annex Auditorium in Rushville.
Reynolds and Mrs Reynolds entertained with a desert bridge at their home Wednesday evening. Guests included Mr. and Mrs. H. T. Beher, Mr. and Mrs. A. Wi. Winfield, Mr. and Mrs. H. E. Henley, Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Carr, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Norris, Dr. and Mrs. George B. McNabb, Mrs Gladys Norris, Mrs. Grace Phelps, and Mrs. Mattie Publow.
Margaret Jones 30 died Sunday at her Raleigh home after months of illness. Funeral services were held at Wyatt Memorial Mortuary Rushville with Rev. Russell Dole officiating. Burial followed in Raleigh cemetery. Survivors include her parents Mr. and Mrs. Hubert Jones, twin sister Anna M. of Raleigh, and brother Russell H. Jones of California. She was niece of Mrs. Anna J. Stipe of Carthage.
