Juries Drawn for March Term in Circuit Court

Scouts to Hike From Wm Penn Hut to Hannegan Church

Scouts from Troop 29 plan a Saturday hike leaving the Wm. Penn Hut at 8 30 by school bus to Hannegan Church. They will explore Little Blue in search of Indian arrowheads with each Scout bringing noon provisions. D P Dunn and Geo Holwager will accompany the group. Mrs Murray Parker was in Milroy Monday.

Town Council Reviews Water Works Plan Under P W A

The Town Council met Monday with all members present to discuss a water works project under the P W A. R C Lennox of Indianapolis explained the plan and answered questions. The proposal offers 30 percent government aid and a loan for the remainder at 4 percent for 30 years. Construction costs, supervision, and labor details were outlined, with town ownership after full payment. The next session will continue the discussion.

Farewell for Rev. J. T. Pierce at Fairmount

Funeral services were held in Fairmount for Rev. J. T. Pierce a long serving Wesleyan Methodist minister. The former pastor of the local church for about eighteen years is survived by his widow a son and two daughters.

Walnut Ridge church revival services announced this week

The Walnut Ridge church holds a revival meeting this week and next with Rev. Paul Todd of Jonesboro in charge. Meetings begin nightly at 7 30 and all are cordially invited to attend.

Cast lists, roles, and plot outline for an operetta to be staged at the Auditorium Theatre next Tuesday at 8 pm. Senior performers include Dennis Black, Maibelle Rich, Maizie Slack, and John Rich. A storm strand the travelers at a hotel, uncover family secrets, and end with renewed bonds and plans for future schooling.

Friendly Circle entertaining husbands with 6 pm pitch-in dinner

The Friendly Circle met Tuesday at Mrs Bayard Bakers home for a 6:00 pitch-in dinner. A program featuring a piano duet, vocal solo, and quartet numbers followed a brief business session. The group played several contests and plans the next meeting at Mrs Lillian Moores home with Mrs Evalena Reams assisting.

Woman's Literary Circle Hosts Meeting and Charity Talk

Mrs Mildred Tetrick hosted the Woman's Literary Circle last Monday with twenty one members and two guests. The discussion centered on Jewish attitudes toward charity philanthropy and social service as Miss Winona Newsom reviewed Henry Rosenfelt's This Thing of Giving and shared insights from a personal interview with two Jewish businessmen of Indianapolis. A lively discussion followed and a vote to honor Bayard Baker for selecting the U S senior's Silver Cup was noted during the business period. Mite boxes were distributed for the Foundation Fund of the Indiana Federation of Clubs with Mrs May Winfield presiding in place of the president Mrs Willella Henley.

Rushville captured the sectional title after wins across the tournament. Carthage Bluebirds fell Friday night to Milroy 26-23 while top scorers included Rushville against New Salem, Glenwood, Mays, Morton, Arlington and Milroy with final margins. Officials were Nate Kaufman and Gale Robinson.

Coon Hunters Banquet Set in Greenfield for March

The seventh annual Central Indiana Coon Hunters banquet will be held in Greenfield on Saturday evening March 9 at 7 00. Phil O Neal will act as toast master with ex Governor Harry G Leslie of Lafayette among the distinguished guests. Plans for a state wide coon hunt next summer near Anderson will be advanced at the Greenfield meeting.

Local assessment begins under 1933 township law

Butler visitors Mr and Mrs Robert Binford called on Mr and Mrs Harry Bentley while on a Miami trip. Russell Publow township trustee assessor and deputy Raymond Addison start assessment duties, with Publow covering the country and Addison the corporation. The year’s assessment is the first under the new law for townships under 5 000 population.
