The Carthage P.T.O. will hold a march eight meeting at the Community Center with a pitch in supper at 6 30 p m honoring the basketball teams cheerleaders and coaches Everyone is invited to attend.
The Carthage Home Garden Club will meet next Tuesday at Gertrude Bush’s home with a 10 o'clock luncheon and Opal Moore serving as co-hostess. Lt. Col. Charles Moore and Mrs. Moore from Ft. Lewis Washington visited his sister and family, Mr. and Mrs. Sharon Hunt, on Saturday. Lt. Moore will depart soon for military service in Vietnam Indochina.
The World Day of Prayer is observed this Friday March 4 at 2 p m at Carthage Nazarene Church with all local churches taking part The program titled Laborers Together For God features music by Mildred Nigh and Martha Trowbridge prayers by Rev Herman Parker and Mrs Cledis Nolen a poem by Mrs Gerald Andis and three prayer topics led by Rev Sadie Fields Rev Paul Mayfield and C C Fields The program chairman is Mrs Oral Hisle
Mr and Mrs Howard E Henley left this week for several weeks vacation at Avon Park Florida.
The Carthage Literary Circle reports donations totaling $184 to the Heart Fund campaign. The club thanks all contributors for supporting the worthwhile cause.
John Revolt Sr. of Carthage is seriously ill at Rush Memorial Hospital and undergoing treatment.
Funeral services were held Monday in Vincennes for Mrs Blanche C Amerine 84 former Carthage resident and widow of industrialist D C Amerine who died last Thursday in Vincennes She lived in Carthage years ago when her husband worked at the strawboard plant now Container Corporation A daughter Mrs Gladys Crook of Vincennes is the only immediate survivor Lewis Deeter of Rushville was a second cousin of Mrs Amerine.
Lowell Price of near Carthage began duties as Rush County foreman for the State Highway Department. Ray Howe announced the appointment, replacing Carl Foust who moved to the Greenfield state highway garage. Price has prior experience with the Rush County road department and has been working in heavy equipment for the state in this sub-district.
Mr and Mrs Roy Houchins of Indianapolis announce the birth of a 9 lb baby girl named Brenda Ellen born Monday February 29 at St Francis Hospital. She is the granddaughter of Mr and Mrs Russell Shutt of Carthage RR 4.
Doug Norris and Roger O'Brien of Manilla High School won the Rush County Forestry Judging Contest with 680 of 800 points. The Carthage High School team took second, while Glen Smith of Carthage was named first district alternates. The top two teams advance to the district contest on April 19 at Winchester. Other competitors included Roger Miller and Mark Kuhn of Manilla, Carl Robbins and Mike Chandler of Carthage.

Charles Roland and daughter from Indianapolis dined with Russell Roland family. Russell Nigh sang at the Henry County Holiness Meeting in New Castle Church. Donald Stoten Sr and Jr visited Indianapolis. Roland party called on Rollie Walker in Knightstown and Charity Roland in Charlottesville.
Nancy F. Brunson aged 87 died suddenly from a cerebral hemorrhage Saturday evening at her home near Willow Branch Greenfield Rt 5. She was a Willow Branch Methodist Church member and widow of Arthur Brunson. Surviving: daughter Mary White. sons Russell, Robert, and James. nine grandchildren. eight great grandchildren. sister Inez Woods. Funeral Tuesday at 2 p.m. Condo Funeral Home Wilkinson with interment Simmons Cemetery.
Last Saturday February 27 Carthage FFA members attended the Forestry Entomology and Demonstrations contest at Rushville. Carthage led county participation with top teams and individuals including Bob Cooper Mike Heim Beth Roberts Tom Tucker and Marvin Heim Glen Smith Ron Fannin Larry Fenner Carl Robbins receiving honours and qualification for the District IX meet near Richmond in April.
A daughter was born Saturday at Rush Memorial Hospital in Rushville to Mr and Mrs Alva Brown of Carthage.
The Container Corporation of America announces free trees for reforestation erosion control or pulpwood. Available species include cottonwood sycamore black locust ash yellow poplar and stratified walnut. Trees are distributed on a first come first served basis. Farmers must plant and tend them and should order now for spring.

Eight Carthage High School students from Ripley Township competed in Rush County forestry and entomology judging at the County Extension Office. The eight entrants qualified for district competition in Winchester. winners included Marvin Heim Ronald Fannin in crops, Beth Roberts in forestry, Tom Tucker in electric, Bob Cooper and Mike Heim in farm safety, Glen Smith and Lea Foust in general. Larry Fenner and Marvin Heim took forestry second, with Fenner unable to judge district forestry due to entomology first place. First alternates Glen Smith attends. Larry Fenner Carl Robbins and Beth Roberts won entomology first and earned an engraved trophy from the agricultural department.

Named editor James Terhune son of Mr and Mrs Albert R Terhune R R 1 Knightstown has been elected editor of the Echo the Taylor University student newspaper He is a sophomore majoring in Social Science and plans to enter teaching He also serves as Gem sports editor class treasurer and member of the Social Science Club and Trojan Players Taylor University a 114 year old private interdenominational Christian college offers 16 majors leading to AB and BS in Education degrees.

Other listed participants include Roger Miller, Carl Robbins, Mark Kuhn, and Mike Chandler.
The Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts held a second organizational meeting at the Community Center. The third and final gathering is set for March 9 at 7 30 p m. Attendance is urged to ensure children may join the Scouting program in this community in Carthage.
