Lodge Social At S O O F Hall Draws Large Turnout
About one hundred people attended a Tuesday social at S O O F Hall with Fletcher M E church orchestra providing music. Guests staged stunts, heard R E Henley recite St Peter at the Gate, and enjoyed a leap year grand march led by Miss Pearl Coffin and H Oran Henley. A long table offered oysters and snacks, Kennedy's Cafe servers assisted, Rev C N Willson offered thanks, and the event marked the lodge's first large social in four years amid talk of reestablishing a Rebecca Lodge.

Death of Mrs Effie McDougal Promptes Kinship Visit
Ex ec man R S Whitton sought ditching in Indy area after the death of Mrs Effie McDougal following an operation. Her brothers J F Tweedy and Earl Tweedy were summoned to Indianapolis Tuesday. The body was brought to Knightstown Thursday by Mr and Mrs Allen, a daughter of the deceased. Funeral was at 10:30 AM Thursday from the Tweedy home with J F Tweedy and Earl Tweedy attending. One son, Oneson, recently enlisted and serves in the Philippines.

Tragedy Shatters Carthage Family As Teenager Dies
Howard McDaniel thirteen year old son of Mr and Mrs Al McDaniel was shot and killed near the J F Tweedy lumber yard behind the warehouse in Carthage. Roy Linscott and Carl Walker witnessed a fatal accidental shooting after a friendly scuffle over a loaded revolver. Roy admitted pulling the trigger as Howard fell dying from a chest wound. Coroner Shauck and undertaker Clyde Lewis arrived, with the coroner promising a verdict in days. Funeral services were set for Friday at the Wesleyan Methodist church led by Rev E H Kennedy.

Choir and Orchestra Entertain at Coffin Party
Mr and Mrs Merrel D. Coffin were guests of honor at a Monday night party by the choir and orchestra at the M. E. parsonage. About twenty five attended. A guessing contest a musical love story and an auction of paintings provided entertainment. Each guest got a bag with 25 beans and a painting catalog. J A Lineback auctioned the works. "The Horse Fair" was shown. A nail in a wooden sample won the best picture prize. Pink and white refreshments and candle light completed the event.
