Mr and Mrs William Fred Magee and family came home Saturday after a two week vacation in Florida They stayed with Mr and Mrs Jack Cole in Melbourne and visited Vero Beach during the trip
The Vocational Agriculture Department at Charlottesville High School is classified First Class, the highest rating for the program. State Supervisor H. B. Taylor approved similar First Class ratings for 56 Indiana departments. Lee Patton teaches vocational agriculture, and George B. Glenn is the high school principal.
Gary McClurg, Randy McClurg, Robert Earl McCorkle, Bill Robert son and Jerry Gribbons attended Sunday’s game between the Cincinnati Redlegs and the Dodgers.
Firefighters were dispatched Wednesday evening around 8 p m to Herbert Fannin’s West Mill Street lot where an old car was burning.
An announcement last week states William E. Alexander has been selected by President Kennedy for a local postmaster position. His appointment requires Senate approval.
Lieutenant Colonel Charles Moore and Mrs Moore and family, weekend guests of his sister Mrs Sharon Hunt and family. Moores have been stationed fourteen months at Saigon South Viet Nam.
Jack Stephens son of Mr and Mrs Eddie Stephens caught a 6 lb 25 inch catfish at the Henry Stenger pond during a Saturday fisheroo meeting of the local Boy Scout troop.
The Postal Bulletin states a 5 cent increase in money order and Special Delivery fees effective July 1 1961. First class and airmail under two pounds will carry a 30 cent Special Delivery, other classes under two pounds 55 cents. Money order charges rise to 20 cents for 0.01 to 10.00, 30 cents for 10.01 to 50.00, and 35 cents for 50.01 to 100.00.
Mr and Mrs Hugh Roberts and daughter Beth Roberts of Carthage and John Goble of Knights Town returned home Saturday after a vacation through the western states and a visit with Mr and Mrs Mark Merritt and Mr and Mrs Lloyd Merritt of Goff Kansas.
Mr. and Mrs. Donald Stoten Sr Mr. Donald Stoten Jr and Kenneth Land attended the Hoosier Beef Carcass Show at the Hy-Grade Plant in Indianapolis on Monday. They also enjoyed the Cinerama show at the Indiana Theater.
Miss Pam Hunt of Carthage and Bill Caldwell of New Castle hosted a banquet Saturday night for the Past Masters of the Masonic Lodge in Muncie. About five hundred members and guests attended the event.
Robert Morris of New Tribes Mission and former Walnut Ridge Friends Church pastor will deliver the Sunday morning sermon at Walnut Ridge this Sunday July 2 1961. Friends and guests are invited to attend services.

Rush County to implement a 1.85 dollar per bushel minimum price-support rate for 1961 crop wheat announced by Everett W. Hester, ASC chairman. The rate, tied to 75 percent of the 1961 parity price, replaces 1960’s 1.84 and applies to loans and purchases through January 31, 1962, with Indiana loans due March 31, 1962. Compliance with 1961 acreage allotments and wheat marketing certificates required in commercial areas.
Carthage grade school defeats Mays 6 to 5 on the local diamond with six first inning runs. Nigh and Edwards produced key hits for Carthage while Brooks struck out four for Mays. Carthage improves to 2 2.
The Christian Women Fellowship will meet July 6 at the Christian Church. Officers will host as hostesses and a pro and con discussion will be held.
James Ellis and son Steve joined Joe Porter and son Kit along with Paul Loveaul and Eugene Miekush at the Wright-Patterson Air Force Base air show in Dayton Ohio on Sunday.
Mr and Mrs Odell Pitts and children Larry and Maryin attended the All-Star basketball game Saturday night at the Butler Field House in Indianapolis. Other local families traveled or hosted visits across Illinois and Indiana including Hammond St Louis and Mays with dinners and gatherings noted.
Sixteen Indiana company representatives stayed with Mr. Owen K. Murphy president of Niagara Therapy Mfg. Corp. at his Adamsville Pennsylvania home. They toured the Brocton New York factory and visited Fairyland Clinic Meadsville sponsored by Niagara.
Citizens of Carthage announce a Beard-Growing Contest as part of the Fall Festival. The Better Business Association will set prize categories and awards. Local men including Lloyd Manuel and others are named as potential competitors amid town excitement.
The Indiana State Fair announces a revamped baton twirling contest on September 1 open to all advanced twirlers. Beginning and intermediate classes are removed, new state Boys and Girls championships will be recognized, and corps groups of 10 or more compete for state championship trophies. Entry deadline is July 1. details at the Indianapolis publicity office.
A Dairy Agronomy Field Day focusing on forage establishment management and utilization will be held July 20 at Purdue University’s agronomy farm seven miles northwest of Lafayette Indiana. Tours cover forage establishment feeding Holstein steers and more with topics on face fly control alfalfa varieties meadow management and hay quality. Tours start at 8 30 a m CT followed by lunch and talks by Ed Carson and Hoosier dairymen.
Mr and Mrs Joe Graff and family hosted dinner guests including Karen Graff Gary Siler and Bill Schmidt in Indianapolis. Rex Edwards and Jerry Edwards plus families joined for supper. Paul Mayfield and family visited Letts with Arnold Atkins. Rhodes family attended the All Star game at Butler Fieldhouse and James Ellis Jr visited Butler University then sport car races.
Carthage leads Arlington Softball League batting with a .344 team average as nine of the top twelve spotters come from Carthage. Siebert's, Columbia, and Fairland trail with .217, .291, and .248 respectively, while individual leaders include Bremer and McCorkle of Carthage with strong at bats and power hitters Magee and Cooley each with two homers.

Mrs. Melvin McCorkle of Knights Town had major surgery at New Castle Clinic after admission Tuesday. Mrs. Roy Stanley shows slow improvement at Hancock County Hospital. Jack Oren Jackson, son of Mrs. Helen Houchins of Indianapolis and grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Russell Shutt of Carthage, is seriously ill at St. Francis Hospital Beech Grove Indianapolis.
