A local plea urges creation of the Tweedy Community Center memorial to honor more than two hundred Ripley township men who served in World War II. The project would place names on a brick wall inside a nonsectarian hall, serving as a lasting symbol of patriotism and community unity.

CBS plans network coverage of the Republican National Convention in Chicago with key speeches by Gov Earl Warren and others. The opening session airs 11 30 to 12 30 p m Monday June 26 from Chicago Stadium with Gov Dwight H Green greeting delegates. Balloting starts Wednesday June 28 as major networks broadcast the sessions.
Jesse L. Hinton aged 79, longtime Rush county resident, died Thursday evening at the home of his daughter Mrs. Hubert Watkins near Cadiz after an illness since November. Survived by four daughters, two sons, 21 grandchildren, five great grandchildren, and others. Funeral services were held Sunday at Arlington Christian church with Rev. Floyd Goins and Rev. C. R. Buck officiating. interment in Arlington cemetery.

Mrs. Rue McDaniel underwent surgery Friday at the Methodist hospital in Indianapolis and is reported to be getting along nicely. Joel Ridlen entered the Methodist hospital Saturday for observation and treatment. Mrs. Ross Parish was returned home Friday from the Methodist hospital and is somewhat improved.
Community center donations poured in this week to the Tweedy Memorial Community Center fund. Contributors include F B Morris ten dollars and Lt Col and Mrs R Porter ten dollars, Inland Container one hundred fifty dollars, H E Henley one hundred dollars, and numerous families and groups giving smaller amounts.
Ripley township Farm Bureau met Monday at 8 30 PM in the school with Donald Ruby as chairman. The session opened with singing Faith of Our Fathers led by Mrs Cecil Pike and Miss Charlotte Moore on piano. A Tweedy Memorial talk by Grant Henley followed, with fund contributions to Modlin Memorial and Post War Planning. Twenty five dollars to Tweedy Memorial fund and two dollars to Modlin Memorial fund were approved. The next meeting was assigned to Mr. and Mrs. Henry L. Stenger and others. The program featured Miss Patricia Truitt and Miss Susanne Truitt with John Allen Ruby and Bayard Baker giving talks. Ice cream and cookies were served to 55 attendees.
The squirrel hunting season in Indiana will open August 10 and run through October 8. Fox and grey squirrels are protected with a bag limit of five. red squirrels are not protected. Provisions were set by the Advisory Committee with approval of the State Conservation Commission and the Director of Fish and Game.
Mr and Mrs Charles Wilbur Gatewood announce the birth of a baby boy named Charles Leslie born Friday morning June 9 at Greencastle hospital. Both mother and child are reported to be doing well.
The 1944-1945 Carthage schools will rehire most last term teachers with two new hires in commercial and home economics and physical education. Eugene C. Pulliam the state war finance chairman urged Indiana residents to back the invasion by buying war bonds toward the Fifth War Loan target of 281 million dollars. He said the state has subscribed about one fifth of its goal and urged full effort with the American forces on the beaches. Indiana has led the nation in sales over quota in recent campaigns and aims to finish first with the highest coverage.
William Aitchison of the Indianapolis OPA warns local rationing boards there will be no June quota increases for passenger car tires. He cites ongoing shortages for large truck tires and predicts a prolonged shortage through the summer with some trucks laid up.
US citizens bought 17 times as many War Bonds in 1943 as in 1940, reflecting escalating wartime savings and public support for financing the conflict.
