Indiana opened fishing season on June 16 for game fish with streams closed at midnight June 15. Hoosier anglers expect a strong year as many species reach minimum sizes. The bass bag limit rises to ten inches, replacing the 11 inch minimum, and licenses are required for all over eighteen.
Clarence A. Jackson notes no industrial license fees are due this year or future. The 1935 Legislature, urged by Governor McNutt, repealed the act requiring payment of these fees. Prior to 1933, fees were collected by the Industrial Board then shifted. rates ranged from $1 to $10 for theatres hotels and other large employers, yielding $11,983 to $15,809 annually.
The 1935 Weight Tax Law becomes effective July 1 requiring for hire motor vehicles to pay a tax at local license branches. Tax is 60 cents per 100 pounds with a 5 cent monthly reduction if bought mid year, reducing to 30 cents for the remainder of 1935, with nontransferable plates and a 10 day operating certificate prior to metal plate mailing. Carriers must present scale weight and pay by July 1.
The six living members of Earlham College’s class of 1885 attended a golden reunion during commencement activities last Sunday. Prof. E P Trueblood, among Earlham’s oldest members, joined five fellow alumni S Murray Parker Ethel Kirk Calvert Clara Augusta Mering Lena Mae Jones Hill and Richard Hollowell from Greensboro and Indianapolis to mark the milestone.

Indiana officials report an average daily travel of 7,751,226 miles on state highways outside cities. James D. Adams notes rising traffic demands and outlines plans for safer, faster travel including shoulder widening, curve and grade elimination, and future highway extensions with a divided lane concept.
Nearly 200000 gross income tax return forms for the second quarter of 1935 have been mailed to Indiana taxpayers. Julys 1 to 15 tax period will be handled at 141 license branches plus 270 distributed points. Exemption amounts are 250 for quarterly and 500 for six months. Payments in July fund schools starting January 1.
Indiana’s seventh annual all state air tour, featuring over forty planes, will fly 1,500 miles across more than twenty cities. Under tour director Herbert O. Fisher, the caravan departed from Hoosier Airport in Indianapolis at 9:00 a.m. The itinerary lists daily routes through New Bethel, Shelbyville, Orleans, Columbus, French Lick, Vincennes, Martinsville, Rochelle, Fort Wayne, Muncie, and other communities, ending back in Indianapolis.
Knightstown Post No. 152 announces the first call for boys under seventeen to join an American Legion team. Eligible boys from Knightstown and surrounding areas must assemble at Stuart Field on Friday June 21 at 1 30 p m to register. The Legion provides gear except gloves and shoes.
Following a new Act of Congress the Army adds 46 000 enlisted posts with vacancies in Infantry Field Artillery Tanks Quartermaster Medical and Signal Corps. Indiana Recruiting District Indianapolis HQ seeks ready young men effective July 1. Eligibility 18 to 35 consent for under 21 height 5 ft 4 in weight 115 lbs good character health dental readiness pass IQ test US citizen or intent to become one single with no dependents.
The State Highway Commission estimates a train of 3 350 railroad cars will haul materials for surface treatment on 838 miles of state highways. The train includes 350 tank cars with three and a half million gallons of bituminous material and 3 400 cars carrying aggregate. Bids have been received and contracts are being awarded for the surface treatment program this year.
Statewide rules prohibit fireworks displays before June 1935 and ban sale or display in public spaces any item that could explode from sun or heat. Children under 12 may not purchase. sales near flammable liquids are barred. several named explosive novelties are banned.
A Rushville man died after a wheel incident at about 3:00 am while a robbery occurred at a farm home of Mrs. Dave Sloan one mile south of town. Debris and clothing found in a gunny sack near the body indicate the victim was connected to the Sunday night burglary. No residents were in the house at the time.
Oil and gas activity climbs to a multi county high as the Indiana Department of Conservation reports increased drilling. Most gas wells rise in Daviess and Knox counties while oil wells target Pike Posey Gibson and Perry counties. New gas field pipelines near Oaktown Knox County connect to the Kentucky Natural Gas line toward Terre Haute.
Dr. James Furbay pastor of the Friends church begins a vacation Monday. He will study at Chicago Theological Seminary and Chicago University and work on writings for a nearly finished book. He plans to return for Sunday services July 7. Mrs. Furbay and the children stay home. He will visit Hull House and later conduct a memorial for Jane Addams, recounting her social reconstruction work.

A Sunday dinner at the Souder home near Center celebrated James H. Souder’s eighty first birthday with many relatives present from Greenfield Indianapolis Shirley and other nearby towns. A separate pitch in dinner hosted by Mrs Homer Bowers honored her husband with a large guest list including Bowers relatives from Markleville Lewisville Middletown and New Castle along with Jackson Wright and Miers families from various locales.
Sunday dinner guests at the Henleys were Mr. and Mrs. Ross Immel of New Paris, Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Delano of Pierceton, Mr. and Mrs. Wylie Riedell, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Ray of Madison, Mr. and Mrs. C. J. Rushton of Danville, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Sanger of Elkhart, and Mr. and Mrs. Harold Rodgers of Mishawaka. Mesdrs and Mesdames Immel, Delano, Rushton, and Reidel were Saturday night guests.

Fred King and his family have moved into their newly purchased residence once owned by C. G. Hill. Mrs. King plans to have her beauty parlor established in the south front of the home.
Charles H. Kennedy of Mays died at his home Monday morning around 2:00 from a heart attack after a day of painting. Born January 13 1879 in Rush County, he was 56 years old. He founded a 25 year career as a painter and decorator and is survived by Mary Brooks Kennedy, two sons Raymond C. and Russell T., two brothers Jasper and Roy, and his widow. Funeral at his residence Wednesday at 10 with burial in town cemetery. D P Dunn was director.
Franklin Finney, Commissioner of the Bureau of Motor Vehicles, reports up to June 1 1935 total receipts 6 938 865 63 for the year compared with 7 006 314 for all of 1934 and an increase in plates issued by 43 344. Licenses and transfers show substantial gains amid rising new car purchases totaling 233 404 up from 162 291 last year.
Donkey baseball was played Sunday at the school grounds with a large crowd in attendance. Sponsored by the Kappa Sigma Sorority, proceeds from the game and soft drinks totaled about 23 dollars. Henry Jessup and Clarence Henley led opposing teams of local businessmen, with Jessup’s side winning 9 to 6 before rain halted play in the fifth inning. The donkey owners left for Connersville Monday after a game there in the afternoon.
The Arlington band drew a larger audience than previous shows at its third concert Saturday night and plans another performance on the public square this coming Saturday. The June 22 program includes marches by March and Klohr, selections such as Song of the Nile, Good Evening, Princess of India, and Over The Waves, ending with The Star Spangled Banner.

Children’s Day Exercises next Sunday with a 9 30 start due to one combined service. Greta McClain chairs the committee preparing the program. On Sunday June 30 the young campers from Quaker Haven will lead morning worship and present conference reports.
The Fletcher M. E. Church posts a Children's Day rehearsal this Friday at 2:00 PM. A midweek service returns Thursday at 7:30 PM with choir at 8:15 PM. Sunday worship at 9:30 AM features the sermon An Unplanted Seed and special music. A large children’s program is set for 7:30 PM Sunday with songs drills and recitations by the youth.

The annual Indiana G. A. R. encampment began in Marion on Monday for a four day session. A parade closed the event as about 1,000 veterans remain in the state with fewer than fifty in attendance. Former U S Senator James E. Watson spoke at the camp fire program on Wednesday night.
