Mrs. Gouldie Kyser returns to her Carthage home on Wednesday morning after hospitalization at Rush Memorial. Mrs. Daisy Thomas of Milroy is staying with her.
Mrs. Edgar V. Ruby was admitted to Rush Memorial hospital Sunday for treatment.
The Rev. Louis Barrett from Marion becomes the new minister at Walnut Ridge Friends church. He and his wife have three children and seek a house in Carthage as they plan to move.
The Rev. Eugene C. Sommer accepts another year as pastor for Carthage Friends Church. Sommer, a Middler Seminary student at Butler University School of Religion, began the pastorate last October.
Frank R. Helme, son of Rev and Mrs Frank G Helme, was ordained at Main Street Christian Church Rushville. He has been accepted as a candidate for the B D degree by Yale Divinity School in New Haven Conn and will begin training for the Christian ministry this fall.
Mr. and Mrs. Henry L. Stinger attend Franklin College commencement on Sunday afternoon. Their nephew James Crews graduates, and the couple also join a reception at Mr. Crews's home in Indianapolis.
Mr. and Mrs. Bayard Baker attended the 39th class reunion of the 1916 high school class hosted at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Glaude Jones in Pendleton. About forty alumni joined in a bountiful dinner and program with attendees from California, Florida, Iowa, Missouri and Ohio.

Mr and Mrs Elmer Fenner and son Larry attended Indiana University graduation exercises Monday where Bruce Fowler a relative was among the seniors.
Mr and Mrs Charles Whitfield attended rural carriers district meetings on Saturday night at Taswell and on Sunday at McCormick's Creek State Park.
Victor Moore son of Mr and Mrs Landon Moore underwent a tonsillectomy last Friday at Rush Memorial hospital Rushville. He is now home and convalescing.
Miss Marilyn Jo Gray has accepted a position in the office of the William H. Block Company in Indianapolis.
The Vacation Bible School ended last Friday with praise from all Sunday schools. Teachers and volunteers are commended for a worthwhile program at the Community Center, including songs, memory work, and displays. Mrs. Hubert Hunt and Miss Dorothy Edwards provided music.
Captain Jack Porter of Phoenix and Lt Thurman Porter Jr of Seattle are visiting their parents Mr and Mrs Thurman Porter for a few days.
A Sunday morning crash at the county line road and Walnut Ridge Church road involved Arlington resident Wilfred Catt and Carthage resident James Miller. State Trooper John Means apportioned fault to Miller, estimating $175 damage to Miller’s car and $350 to Catt’s. Catt’s young son Lynn suffered head and neck bruises and a foot injury, treated by a Knightstown physician.
Burglars obtained about $60 in a Tuesday early break-in at the Clarence Henley poolroom in Carthage. Sheriff Robert May said the loot included a $10 roll of quarters and $8 in nickels, with the rest taken from two smashed pinball machines. Entry was through an unlocked rear window between 12:30 and 1:30 a.m.
Manilla School led county attendance with 98.29 percent in the last grading period, per county attendance officer Margaret Permenter. Rushville Junior High topped city schools at 97.59 percent. City enrollment 1,411 while township enrollment reached 2,749 for a total of 4,160 pupils. overall attendance averaged 95.99 percent, with Carthage third at 97.33 percent and 435 pupils enrolled.
The Ripley Conservation Club met Wednesday night at the Community Center to discuss ongoing projects and upcoming events. Members reviewed committee reports and set plans for community outreach and habitat restoration efforts.
May real estate sales in Rush County totaled about 293000, up from 98000 in May last year, with five month total reaching 1601000 versus 1143000 a year earlier. Dr Kenneth V Tost has opened a veterinary office and residence at Mays replacing Dr Francis Law. A graduate of Greenfield High School Purdue University and Michigan State University with a WWII Army service in France and Germany, he is 32, married with two daughters.
Rush County Courthouse maples on the lawn, imported from Norway, suffer a leaf wilt with no known cure. Purdue University experts report the incurable disease as identified by C. L. Spuller Rush County agricultural agent.
Arlington Lions Club builds a hard surface outdoor playground on Arlington school grounds with facilities for basketball badminton and tennis. Lights funded by a recent turkey supper, with finish funds to come from next Friday and Saturday’s fish fry carnival on the school grounds.
New officers were installed at the Carthage Volunteer Fire Department in a Community Center meeting last Thursday. Finley Smith was named president, Omar Heim vice-president, Clarence Heim secretary, and Howard Windsor treasurer, with Roy Hearne appointed Chief.
About twenty attended the Wednesday night Camera Club gathering at the Community Center. Joe Cooney of Knightstown attended and a color photography film was shown. A June 24 picnic is planned. Sunday dinner guests included Pvt. Charles Roland and family, Roger Allen Fox, Marita Roland, and Mrs. Luther Reeves of Indianapolis. Evening guests were Virgil Roland and family, and Mrs. Charity Roland of Cumberland. They accompanied Howard Ewbank to Aurora for dinner at the Mounds.
John E. Bennett a Rush County farmer died at his home after months of illness. He lived in Rush County for 25 years and is survived by his widow Hallie Smith Bennett a daughter and five sons. Funeral services were held in Knightstown and burial was in Glencove cemetery.
George Jackson was thrown from his tractor while cutting hay on his east of Carthage farm. The tractor tipped, ran on, but Jackson was unhurt. His son Edward helped upright the machine and confirmed no damage. George credits a protective higher power for the narrow escape.

Ruby returns home for the summer. Community members travel, host dinners, and visit relatives in Anderson Huntsville Muncie Terre Haute and Mc Cordsville with many grandparents and friends mentioned.
Mrs Anna Troy returns from St Petersburg Florida and stays with daughter Mrs Harriett McClarnon near Cleveland. Mr and Mrs Philip Edwards and baby visited from Tuesday to Wednesday before heading to Athens Alabama with Edwards' mother returning home. Mrs Ralph Mosier and daughter Sheryl accompany J W Power to Harrisburg Arkansas for a visit before returning. Mrs Fred Weber of Indianapolis visits sister Mrs Harry Elder and Mr Elder. Mr and Mrs Harold Cappell of Greenfield were Sunday dinner guests of Mr and Mrs Harry Elder.
The Mixers Home Ec Club met June 3 at Mrs. Robert Nigh’s home with devotions and a lesson on home grounds. Guests enjoyed strawberries and ice cream for seven members and 12 children. Bridal shower for Carol Rand held at Mrs Libby Dedic’s in Indianapolis. guests from Carthage included several Rubys and Bushs. Wedding announcements involve Willa Nurl Cox in Fort Madison Iowa with a note on Charles Roland’s family trip to Indianapolis. The Friendship Class, American War Mothers, and local wedding and church events are summarized with host families and attendees.
