Walter Chonan Harold Ruby and Roy Small lead the Lions as auction organizers for the Tweedy Memorial Community Center fundraiser set for June 30 in Carthage. The event promises entertainment and a chance at an antique while supporting a good cause.
Lions Club hosts first annual auction in Carthage on Saturday June 30 at the A. J. Carr building. Proceeds go to Tweedy Memorial Community Center. Items include a pig a radio a chicken and furniture and household goods will be accepted to raise funds. Auction committee members Walter Chonau Roy Small and Harold Ruby coordinate the event and a display window is set at The Citizen.
First Lieut. James W. Henley son of Mr and Mrs Howard E Henley Carthage serves with the 67th Tactical Reconnaissance Group in the Ninth Air Force. The unit earned a Presidential Unit Citation for pre invasion reconnaissance over Normandy and for mapping the Siegfried Line and Rhine valley. Henley, a Bloomington Indiana Univ graduate, earned the European Theater campaign ribbon with four stars. His brother Lt H E Henley Jr is stationed at Coast Guard Base New London Conn.
Robert Earl Reeves son of Mr and Mrs Earl Reeves of Indianapolis earned a special merit scholarship upon graduation. He is the grandson of Mr and Mrs William J Reeves of Carthage.

Lt. Robt. A. Winslow earned commendation for conduct during amphibious operations in the Philippines. The citation notes his ship shot down three Japanese planes and helped defeat several others under heavy enemy air attack. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Howard Winslow.
Weber presided as new Lions president after Monday night elections. Outgoing president A. W. Winfield hosted a lunch as ballots were counted. New officers include Howard Henley declining the presidency, with O. C. McCarty and Wilbur McCorkle elected directors and Grant Henley, Ben Neal, Thomas Bush as vice presidents and Parvel Moore as secretary.
Miss Marjorie Fraze daughter of Roscoe Brown of Carthage recently graduated from Indiana University School of Business and has taken a secretary role in the audio visual aids bureau of the IU Extension Division. While at IU she belonged to Eta Sigma Phi and the Independent Students Association.
