Officials issue posters at crossings highlighting that most accidents occur in daylight and in clear view areas, with 14 percent from side impacts and 25 percent by careless drivers. Many crossings lack protection, and drivers must ensure the way is clear before crossing.
Eighty three year old Allen W Newsom was surprised by a June seven family gathering for his 83rd birthday. Ten relatives attended a pitch in dinner with a custom 83 candle cake presented by grandchild Katherine Henley. Attendees included Rev S Dudley and Mrs Dudley Lewisville, Walter Hill and Mrs Hill Knightstown, Ida Skinner Indianapolis, A W Newsom family members, and Howard Newsom of Chicago was absent.
Mrs. H. E. Postum of Montgomery visited sister Mrs. Michael Kyser and family. Trustee T. J. Passwater secured Miss Katherine Hale of Muncie as commercial department teacher for next term. Mr. and Mrs. Bert Miller and son Jack of Leavenworth Kansas came Wednesday to visit Mrs. Granville Miller.
William T. Hill aged 82 died Thursday afternoon at 4 20 at his home after a long cancer battle. A Civil War private in Company G 16th Indiana served 3 years and later was a rural mail carrier for 16 years. Surviving are widow Grace Porter and son Hubert Hill, a half brother Butler Hill, and granddaughter Mary Louise Hill. Funeral Saturday at 2 at the home with Dr. Scull and Rev. Jean officiating. Burial in Glencove cemetery Knightstown.
We express sincere thanks to all who assisted during illness and after the death of our husband and father William T Hill. Special thanks go to Dr Geo B McNabb singers pall bearers W O Moore undertaker and for the floral offerings from Mrs W T Hill and children.
The office says forms for the next few weeks must be closed by Wednesday afternoon instead of Thursday morning. All odd copies are due in the office by Wednesday noon.
Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Johnson and Miss Lillian Henley were in New Castle on Tuesday. A 55 inch iron fence is being installed along the south and east boundary of Riverside cemetery, improving its appearance.
Sam Royse John Royse and Allen Harris were arrested near Jesse Wilson’s farm after a roadside chase. Police found a revolver each and later uncovered a still suspected at the Royse home with a mash barrel hidden in Newby woods. John Rouse and Allen Harris pled guilty to conspiracy to commit larceny and received two to fourteen years. Royse and Harris await further disposition.
The first Henley family reunion gathered last Sunday in Miss Sarah E Newby s woods south of town. Attendees included Claude Henley and sons Lewis and Harold from Hartford City, Rose Sims and Elmer from Edinburg, Marietta and Ruby Binford of Straughn, R P Henley and daughter Ruth, Sarah E Newby, and Al McDaniel s family. Mrs R P Henley elected president and Mrs Al McDaniel secretary treasurer. Next reunion set for the first Sunday in July 1926 in Hartford City.
A 4-H girls club formed with twenty four members under Mrs. Floyd Reddick leadership. Meetings occur biweekly on Wednesdays. four sessions have occurred. Officers elected include Ruth Henley president Fern Theobald vice president Louise Jessup secretary and Mary Ruby yell leader. Meetings started at the Library with one at Ruby McGeorge home next Wednesday. Members sew at meetings and display fine work hoping to show in Rush county clubs this fall.
Local service Sharer and Moore advertises rescreening old doors or windows or replacing them with new units to keep out flies and improve screening.
Classified short notices listing items for sale including clover hay oats tomato plants at 15c per dozen and a second hand gent’s bicycle. Also requests for second hand pipe lengths by W O Moore and notices by Mrs Charles Moore Morton Barber and Sharer & Moore.
