Shoplifters Arrested in Rushville Theft Ring Case
Two New Castle women Fannie Carter 51 and Anna Smith 25 were arrested for shoplifting in Rushville stores after police traced a carload of loot to nine shops. They admitted guilt in circuit court while denying a larger ring involvement. Police found merchandise worth over 1000 dollars and additional high value items at their homes. Smith remains jailed awaiting grand jury action. sentencing is deferred.

The six Walnut Ridge Quarterly meetings presented a splendid musical program Sunday evening with two numbers from each meeting and various requests. Performances included choirs duets quartets flute saxophone piano and trombone by young artists. John Hill chaired and spoke on vacation conferences at Quaker Haven. a free will offering supported attendance this year. The next show will be in Greenfield on June 15th with a large audience present.

Rushville Bridges to be Replaced by Modern Structures
Two historic Indiana covered bridges near Rushville and Metamora will be replaced as part of state highway modernization. Bids on the new bridges are expected June 29. The Road 44 bridge, built in 1881 by A M Kennedy & Sons, spans 160 feet with a 15 foot roadway and sidewalks. the Road 229 Metamora Bridge, a Burr Truss structure likely built by the Kennedy family, is 172 feet long with a 17 foot roadway. The replacement bridges will carry 28 and 24 foot roadways respectively with sidewalks.
