Suit Filed to Halt Remo Construction in Indiana

Public Service Co of Indiana sought a permanent injunction in Marion County Circuit Court against Indiana Statewide Rural Electric Cooperative to stop a $60.225 million federally financed generating and transmission project serving 17 Indiana cooperatives. The suit argues the 1935 certificate of convenience and necessity may be invalid and that the new facilities would duplicate existing service by investor owned utilities after more than 25 years. The REA loan transfer to Statewide aimed to bypass state hearing and PSC approval.
